A Fluorescent Chemosensor Based on Functionalized Nanoporous Silica (SBA-15 SBA-IC-MN) for Detection of Hg2+ in Aqueous Media

Ghodsi Mohammadi Ziarani et al.

Summary: The highly ordered mesoporous silica SBA-15 was modified with indole-3-carbaldehyde and covalently grafted with malononitrile to prepare an organic-inorganic hybrid nanomaterial, SBA-IC-MN. The product successfully attached organic moieties to the surface of SBA-15 while preserving its original structure. The optical sensing ability of SBA-IC-MN was demonstrated to be highly selective and sensitive towards Hg2+ ions in H2O medium, with a detection limit of 3.26 x 10(-6) and excellent linearity with the concentration of Hg2+ ion.

Terbium-functionalized silica nanoparticles for metal ion sensing by fluorescence quenching

Marius C. Stoian et al.

Summary: A new luminescent material based on silica nanoparticles functionalized with a terbium complex exhibited fluorescence in aqueous and organic solvents. The material was effective in sensing metal ions, particularly showing strong quenching effects for iron(III), copper(II), and cobalt(II) ions.

Phthalocyanine-Functionalized Magnetic Silica Nanoparticles as Anion Chemosensors

Joao M. M. Rodrigues et al.

Summary: Anionic species are common pollutants in water, and their presence significantly increases toxicity. A new optical active material based on tri(tosylamino)phthalocyanines grafted to ferromagnetic silica nanoparticles was developed for anion detection and removal. The unsymmetrical phthalocyanines proved to be excellent chemosensors for various anions in DMSO, showing selectivity and sensitivity towards CN-, F-, and OH- anions. The hybrids can be easily recovered using a magnet, allowing for recyclability and reusability.

The emission quenching of upconversion nanoparticles coated with amorphous silica by fluorescence resonance energy transfer: A mercury-sensing nanosensor excited by near-infrared radiation

Liqiang Wang et al.

Summary: A rhodamine derivative was synthesized and studied for its spectral response and sensing mechanism towards Hg(II). It showed good selectivity towards Hg(II) and was covalently grafted onto upconversion nanoparticles to construct a sensing response. Interestingly, this study found the absence of rhodamine emission in the composite structure, which was attributed to self-quenching effect.
