Numerical analysis of energy harvesting system including an inclined inverted flag

Se Hwan Lim et al.

Summary: In this study, the non-zero inclination angle is set on the fixed trailing edge of the inverted flag to increase its instability and improve energy harvesting performance. The effects of bending rigidity and inclination angle on energy harvesting efficiency are analyzed numerically, taking into account the interaction between the flag and surrounding fluid using an immersed boundary method.

Snap-through triboelectric nanogenerator with magnetic coupling buckled bistable mechanism for harvesting rotational energy

Quan Bai et al.

Summary: In this paper, a snap-through triboelectric nanogenerator with magnetic coupling and buckled bistable mechanism is proposed. It significantly increases the electrical output by generating convex and concave snap-through under magnetic excitation. The prototype can light up more than 1000 LEDs under low speed excitation, and realize self-powered temperature monitoring and wireless transmission.

Energy harvesting of inverted piezoelectric flags in an oscillating flow

Soudeh Mazharmanesh et al.

Summary: This work numerically studies the energy harvesting performance of an inverted piezoelectric flag in an oscillating flow. The study identifies three coupling regimes and finds that the maximum mean electrical power coefficient occurs in regime IIa. The findings provide theoretical support for the energy harvesting application of piezoelectric materials in flexible structures.

Flow-induced periodic snap-through dynamics

Hyeonseong Kim et al.

Summary: Experimental and numerical studies were conducted to investigate the stability and post-critical behavior of periodic snapping of an elastic sheet under external uniform flow, revealing snap-through oscillations induced by continuous exposure to fluid-dynamic loading. The critical flow velocity for bifurcation is inversely related to the ratio of streamwise distance to length of the sheet, but not significantly affected by the mass ratio of the sheet and surrounding fluid, leading to divergence instability. In the post-equilibrium state, regular oscillations with the same dominant modes persist in the sheet across a broad range of flow velocities.

Dynamics of inverted flags: Experiments and comparison with theory

Mohammad Tavallaeinejad et al.

Summary: This study investigates the dynamics of inverted flags in reverse axial flow through experiments, uncovering interesting features such as static divergence, large-amplitude buckling, and chaotic motions. The results from experiments are found to align reasonably well with the theoretical models outlined for comparison.

Multiple lock-ins in vortex-induced vibration of a filament

Mohd Furquan et al.

Summary: The study investigates the vortex-induced vibration of a flexible filament attached behind a stationary cylinder. Lock-in phenomenon and responses of multiple normal modes were observed. Different shedding modes were identified during the flow, showing systematic variations in both amplitude and frequency.

Snap-through oscillations of tandem elastic sheets in uniform flow

Junsoo Kim et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigates the dynamic behaviors of tandem buckled sheets with clamped edges in unbounded uniform flow, examining the critical conditions and post-equilibrium responses of snap-through oscillations. The research focuses on comparing the behaviors of the two sheets and reveals that regardless of the gap distance, free-stream velocity, and initial buckled shape, the front and rear sheets exhibit similar deformation magnitudes and bending energies under repeated snap-throughs.
