Chemical Composition of Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) (Maiden & Betche) Cheel Essential Oil and Its Antifungal Effect on Foodborne Molds Isolated from Meat Products

Ramazan Sevik et al.

Summary: The study investigated the composition of tea tree leaf essential oil and its antifungal effects on food-borne molds isolated from meat products. The essential oil showed high antifungal activity on several mold species, with minimum inhibitory concentrations ranging from 0.032 to 0.376 mg/L and minimum fungicidal concentrations from 0.021 to 0.341 mg/L. The MIC/MFC ratio indicated a lethal effect on all mold species studied.
