Essential oil composition, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties of Pluchea eupatorioides Kurz collected from Vietnam

Summary: This study investigated the chemical composition and antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of the essential oil extracted from Pluchea eupatorioides Kurz. The essential oil contained 33 volatile compounds, including major compounds such as β-caryophyllene, 2,5-dimethoxy-p-cymene, α-isocomene, and caryophyllene oxide. The oil demonstrated antimicrobial effectiveness against Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans, as well as antioxidant activity. These findings suggest that P. eupatorioides essential oil could be used as a potential source of antimicrobial and antioxidant agents for the food and pharmaceutical industries.

Chemical Composition, Antimicrobial and Antioxidant Activities of Essential Oil and Methanol Extract from the Stems of Dasymaschalon rostratum Merr. & Chun

Summary: This study provides the first information on the chemical composition, antimicrobial and antioxidant potentials of the essential oil and methanol extract from Dasymaschalon rostratum Merr. & Chun stems. The essential oil showed better antimicrobial activity, while the methanol extract had higher antioxidant potential. Further investigations are needed to identify phenolic compounds and evaluate the antimicrobial mechanisms.

Summary: The effects of hydrodistillation, steam distillation, and microwave-assisted hydrodistillation on the yield, chemical composition, and antimicrobial activity of essential oils from Distichochlamys citrea rhizomes were assessed. Microwave-assisted hydrodistillation showed the highest oil yield and improved the quality of oils compared to the other methods.

The essential oils contained a high percentage of sesquiterpenes and exhibited antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis.

Effect of Extraction Method on Yield, Chemical Composition and Antimicrobial Activity of Essential Oil from the Fruits of Amomum villosum var. xanthioides

Summary: This study reported the yield, chemical composition, and antimicrobial activity of essential oils extracted from the fruits of Amomum villosum var. xanthioides using three different methods. Microwave-assisted hydrodistillation method yielded the highest amount of oil and exhibited the highest antimicrobial activity. The main components found in all oil samples were bornyl acetate, camphor, borneol, D-limonene, camphene, and beta-myrcene.
