Out-of-home care placement and mortality rate in early adulthood: identifying vulnerable subgroups in a nationwide cohort study

Trine Toft Sorensen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the association between out-of-home care and mortality, and examines whether the age and number of placements can modify this association. The findings suggest that both the age at first placement and the number of placements do not modify the association between out-of-home care and mortality. Further research is needed to identify potential intervention points to prevent premature mortality in this disadvantaged group.

Childhood adversity is associated with hospitalisations and survival following external causes and non-communicable diseases: a 46-year follow-up of a Stockholm birth cohort

Josephine Jackisch et al.

Summary: Childhood adversity associated with ICWS is linked to increased risks of disease and injuries in young adulthood. It is uncertain whether these risks are limited to external causes and mental disorders or extend to NCDs with later onset, and whether ICWS is related to decreased survival prospects after hospitalization.

Child Maltreatment and Mortality in Young Adults

Leonie Segal et al.

Summary: This study estimated the impact of child maltreatment on death rates in individuals aged 16 to 33. Results showed that individuals who experienced maltreatment had over twice the death rate compared to those who did not, with those placed in out-of-home care having the highest mortality. The main causes were poisoning, alcohol, and suicide.
