Domino-effect of energy consumption and economic growth on environmental quality: role of green energy in G20 countries

Mohammad Younus Bhat et al.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship among climate change, economic growth and energy consumption in G20 countries, considering the role of green energy. The findings reveal that economic growth, non-renewable energy consumption, and urbanization have a positive impact on carbon emissions, leading to the deterioration of environmental quality. However, an increase in renewable energy consumption can improve environmental quality. Panel causality tests confirm the short-run and long-run causality among the variables, highlighting the significant impact of reducing non-renewable energy consumption and substituting it with renewables in mitigating carbon emissions.
