Novel Nonstoichiometric Niobium Oxide Anode Material with Rich Oxygen Vacancies for Advanced Lithium-Ion Capacitors

Chang Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, ultrathin carbon-confined Nb12O29 materials with rich oxygen vacancies were designed and synthesized to address the low conductivity and instability issues of traditional Nb-based oxides. The oxygen vacancies regulated the electronic structure and improved the electronic conductivity and Li+ diffusion performance, while the carbon coating enhanced the structural stability and electronic conductivity of the Nb12O29 material. The as-prepared Nb12O29-x@C exhibited high reversible capacity, excellent high-rate performance, and durable cycling life. Furthermore, the lithium storage mechanism and structural stability of Nb12O29-x@C were investigated. When applied as the anode of lithium-ion capacitors, the Nb12O29-x@C materials demonstrated high energy density within a wide voltage window, indicating their practical application potential.

Bio-derived graphitic carbon quantum dot encapsulated S- and N-doped graphene sheets with unusual battery-type behavior for high-performance supercapacitor

Mohan Reddy Pallavolu et al.

Summary: This study designed a sustainable route for the preparation of graphene composites by using lemon juice. The composites, formed by carbon quantum dots (CQDs) and N-/S-doped CQDs, showed unusual battery behavior due to the presence of functional groups within the graphitic network. S-doped CQDs exhibited high capacitance retention and good stability after 10,000 cycles. The supercapacitor constructed with S-doped CQDs showed high specific capacity, energy, and power densities.

From pollutant to high-performance supercapacitor: Semi-coking wastewater derived N-O-S self-doped porous carbon

Xianjie Wang et al.

Summary: Heteroatom-doped porous carbon materials with N-O-S self-doping are prepared from semi-coking wastewater-based phenolic resin via a simple Na2CO3 activation strategy. The N-O-S self-doping significantly enhances the conductivity of the porous carbon material. The optimal SWPR-700-2.5 porous carbon material shows a high specific capacitance of 170.5 F g(-1) at 0.5 A g(-1) and a high energy density of 5.92 Wh kg(-1) at 124.9 W kg(-1). The excellent performance is attributed to the large specific surface area (718 m(2) g(-1)) and abundant N-O-S self-doping (2.739 at% N, 8.627 at% O and 1.378 at% S) of SWPR-700-2.5.
