Preparation and performance evaluation of an active nanofluid for enhanced oil recovery in ultra-low permeability reservoirs

Biao Zhou et al.

Summary: A new type of nanofluid using chemically modified ultra-small silicon dots was developed for enhanced oil recovery in ultra-low permeability reservoirs. The active SiDot nanofluid exhibited high interfacial activity, temperature and salinity resistance, and achieved a recovery rate higher than that of brine water and surfactants.

Nanoemulsions stabilized by anionic and non-ionic surfactants for enhanced oil recovery in ultra-low permeability reservoirs: Performance evaluation and mechanism study

Dexin Liu et al.

Summary: Surfactant-stabilized nanoemulsions have high application potential in enhancing oil recovery in ultra-low permeability reservoirs. The displacement performances of nanoemulsions were evaluated and the enhanced oil recovery (EOR) mechanisms were studied. The results showed that the nanoemulsion system exhibited greater EOR effects due to its suitable particle size, low interfacial tension, and strong dissolving effect.

A critical review on selection of microemulsions or nanoemulsions for enhanced oil recovery

Jain Mariyate et al.

Summary: This review discusses the selection criteria, characteristics, and advantages of microemulsions and nanoemulsions for enhanced oil recovery. Both microemulsions and nanoemulsions can improve oil recovery efficiency, but microemulsions are more effective in reducing interfacial tension, altering wettability, and recovering trapped oil. Therefore, microemulsions are more convenient and preferred for enhanced oil recovery.

Experimental and model analysis on shale spontaneous imbibition and its influence factors

Yi Ding et al.

Summary: This study introduced the hydration effect into shale spontaneous imbibition and built a novel analytical model to validate the impact. Research results showed that hydration effect increases the driving force of spontaneous imbibition by forming osmotic pressure, with hydration fractures being the main influencing mechanism on shale spontaneous imbibition. Saline ions have inhibiting effects on shale spontaneous imbibition by decreasing osmotic pressure and weakening hydration structural damage.

Interfacial tension behavior of a nonionic surfactant in oil/water system; salinity, pH, temperature, and ionic strength effects

Naser Akhlaghi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of salinity, temperature, and pH on the Interfacial Tension (IFT) between surfactant and Iranian oil sample. The results showed that divalent cations had a greater effect on reducing IFT compared to monovalent cations, and the ionic strength of the solutions was inversely proportional to the IFT amounts. Additionally, increasing temperature was found to increase IFT levels, while IFT decreased with increasing pH, especially below the critical micelle concentration (CMC).

Experimental study on EOR performance of CO2-based flooding methods on tight oil

Haiyang Yu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of CO2-based methods on tight oil EOR performance through coreflood experiments, and explores the feasibility of CWI/ACWI/ACWAG in increasing the recovery of tight oil with high wax content. Experimental results show that ACWAG achieved the highest oil recovery among all methods.

Mechanistic study of the carbonated smart water in carbonate reservoirs

Loay Al Karfry et al.

Summary: Carbonated smart water injection has been studied for its effectiveness in enhancing recovery factor and storing carbon dioxide in both homogeneous and fractured carbonate reservoirs. Results showed that CSMW can significantly increase oil recovery compared to conventional smart water, with viscosity reduction, ion exchange, and mineral dissolution being key mechanisms. The study also found that over 50% of injected CO2 within CSMW can be captured in residual oil and water in the reservoir, depending on the amount of remaining oil saturation.
