Global large solutions and incompressible limit for the compressible Navier-Stokes system with capillarity

Keiichi Watanabe

Summary: This paper considers the Cauchy problem for the barotropic compressible Navier-Stokes-Korteweg equations in the whole space Rd (d > 2) with large initial velocity v0 and almost constant initial density p0. It is shown that in the two-dimensional case, global solutions can be obtained in the critical Besov spaces framework without any restrictions on the size of the initial velocity, as long as the pressure satisfies a stability condition and the volume viscosity is sufficiently large. This result extends to higher dimensions (d > 3) under the additional assumption that the classical incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, with the initial velocity as the Helmholtz projection of v0, have a global strong solution.

Dissipative structure for symmetric hyperbolic-parabolic systems with Korteweg-type dispersion

Shuichi Kawashima et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on generally symmetric hyperbolic-parabolic systems with Korteweg-type dispersion, proposing new structural conditions and developing a dissipative mechanism of regularity-gain type. Several concrete model systems are checked for compliance with the general structural conditions, including the compressible Navier-Stokes(-Fourier)-Korteweg system. Additionally, the optimality of the general theory on dissipative structure is verified through the calculation of asymptotic expansions of eigenvalues.

Global smooth solutions of 3-D Navier-Stokes-Korteweg equations with large initial data

Yanghai Yu et al.

Summary: In this paper, the Cauchy problem for the tri-dimensional compressible Navier-Stokes-Korteweg system is considered. The global solutions to the tri-dimensional Navier-Stokes-Korteweg equations are established with a specific choice on the Korteweg tensor in the whole space. These solutions are applicable to a class of large initial data whose L-2 norm can be arbitrarily large.

The Lp energy methods and decay for the compressible Navier-Stokes equations with capillarity

Shuichi Kawashima et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the dissipation effect of Korteweg tensor with density-dependent capillarity in the Navier-Stokes-Korteweg equations for a viscous compressible fluid with capillarity effect. The linear third-order capillarity behaves like heat diffusion of density fluctuation, allowing the development of L-p energy methods independent of spectral analysis. Time-decay estimates of L-q-L-r type can be established for this system, with a focus on nonlinear capillarity treatment using Besov product estimates and Sobolev embeddings and interpolations. The results can be applied to the quantum Navier-Stokes system through a special choice of capillarity.

Optimal decay for the compressible Navier-Stokes equations without additional smallness assumptions

Zhouping Xin et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the large time behavior of solutions to the barotropic compressible Navier-Stokes equations in R-d (d >= 2). A pure energy argument has been developed in a more general L-p framework, leading to optimal time-decay rates and removing the smallness of low frequencies of initial data required in previous studies.

GLOBAL LARGE SOLUTIONS AND OPTIMAL TIME-DECAY ESTIMATES TO THE KORTEWEG SYSTEM

Xiaoping Zhai et al.

Summary: In this study, we proved the global solutions to the Korteweg system without smallness condition on the incompressible velocity vertical component. By introducing the weighted Chemin-Lerner-norm technique, we derived a priori estimates and obtained optimal time decay rates of the solutions using a pure energy argument independent of spectral analysis. As opposed to compressible Navier-Stokes system, the time-decay estimates in the Korteweg system are more accurate due to the smoothing effect of the Korteweg tensor.
