Bibliometric analysis of top-cited articles in Journal of Dental Sciences

Summary: This study aimed to identify the most top-cited articles in Journal of Dental Sciences (JDS) and analyze their main characteristics. A total of 41 top-cited articles were filtered from the Web of Science database, and the majority of these articles were original articles with COVID-19, lateral canal, guided-tissue regeneration barriers, and platelet-rich fibrin being the most cited research topics.

Areca Nut and Oral Cancer: Evidence from Studies Conducted in Humans

Summary: Areca nut chewing is a major risk factor for oral cancer, especially in South Asian and East Asian populations. The risk of oral cancer increases with the daily amount of betel quid chewed and the duration of chewing. About half of oral cancers in India and Taiwan are attributed to betel quid chewing. Oral leukoplakia and oral submucous fibrosis are potential precursors of oral cancer caused by areca nut chewing. Quitting areca nut chewing may reduce the risk of oral cancer.
