Turmeric-Fortified Cow and Soya Milk: Golden Milk as a Street Food to Support Consumer Health

Folake Idowu-Adebayo et al.

Summary: The study investigated the use of soybean-based milk as a carrier to release and convey antioxidants from turmeric, compared to cow milk. It was found that adding turmeric paste to milk resulted in the release of turmeric antioxidants, with soy milk samples showing the highest protein, iron, zinc, total phenol content, and antioxidant activity. This study identified a cheap and additional nutrient source for malnourished populations in developing countries, utilizing soy milk to produce golden milk.

Small conductance calcium-activated potassium channels and nitric oxide/cGMP pathway mediate cardioprotective effects of Croton urucurana Baill. In hypertensive rats

Katiana Simoes Lopes et al.

Summary: The extract from Croton urucurana plant shows significant cardioprotective effects in spontaneously hypertensive rats, reversing the cardiovascular and renal impairments induced by hypertension. The study also highlights the involvement of nitric oxide and calcium-activated potassium channels in the cardiovascular effects of the extract.

Association of milk consumption with management and incidence of hypertension among South Korean adults: A prospective analysis of the health examinees study cohort

Hyein Jung et al.

Summary: This study in South Korean adults found an inverse relationship between milk consumption and trends in blood pressure improvement, as well as a decreased risk of hypertension events. Higher milk intake was associated with a lower risk of hypertension and better blood pressure management in both men and women.

Milk consumption and multiple health outcomes: umbrella review of systematic reviews and meta-analyses in humans

Xingxia Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that an increase in daily milk intake by approximately one cup can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, hypertension, colorectal cancer, metabolic syndrome, obesity, and osteoporosis, and is also beneficial for type 2 diabetes and Alzheimer's disease. However, milk intake may increase the risk of prostate cancer, Parkinson's disease, acne, and infantile iron-deficiency anemia. The research highlights the benefits of milk consumption for human health.

A generalized linear mixed model association tool for biobank-scale data

Longda Jiang et al.

Summary: An efficient GLMM-based GWA tool, fastGWA-GLMM, has been developed in this study, which is several orders of magnitude faster than existing tools when applied to UK Biobank data and cohorts with millions of individuals. Simulation results demonstrate that the test statistics for both common and rare variants are well calibrated under the null hypothesis, and the tool successfully identified 259 rare variants associated with 75 traits in the large UKB dataset.
