Using 3D Medical Modeling to Evaluate the Accuracy of Single-Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) Bone Scintigraphy in Diagnosing Condylar Hyperplasia

Junhong Xiao et al.

Summary: By conducting SPECT and CBCT examinations and performing statistical analysis on patients with UCH, it was found that SPECT has poor sensitivity and specificity and is not suitable for evaluating the active stage of condylar growth. However, 3D medical modeling based on CBCT data shows promising prospects for diagnosing condylar hyperplasia.

Histologic findings and related diagnostic methods in condylar hyperactivity

S. Espinosa et al.

Summary: There is currently no consensus on the characteristic histopathological features and diagnostic process of condylar hyperactivity (CH). Although most studies found an increased thickness of the cartilage layer and cartilage islands in CH patients, these histological findings appear to be more related to the age of the sample. There is a need for the development of specific tools for evaluating and reporting studies where histology is required for CH diagnosis confirmation.

Treatment measures of hemimandibular hyperplasia and associated facial deformities

Bassam Abotaleb et al.

Summary: This study presented the experience of treating HH and its associated facial deformities in adults and growing adolescents with high condylectomy and orthognathic surgery. The results showed satisfactory outcomes in terms of functional and aesthetic improvement, long-term stability, and no recurrence after a one-stage surgical procedure. High condylectomy in early adolescence could terminate the disease, while continuous follow-up is required for further aesthetic improvement.
