An embedded boundary approach for resolving the contribution of cable subsystems to fully coupled fluid-structure interaction

Daniel Z. Huang et al.

Summary: This article proposes an embedded boundary approach to study the interaction between cables and surrounding fluids in cable subsystems. The method employs master-slave kinematics and a simple algorithm to capture the dynamics and geometry of the cables, as well as an energy-conserving method for load transfer. The effectiveness of the approach is demonstrated through two highly nonlinear applications, showing its validity.

Discrete embedded boundary method with smooth dependence on the evolution of a fluid-structure interface

Jonathan Ho et al.

Summary: Embedded boundary methods (EBMs) are robust solution methods for highly nonlinear fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems, but they suffer from drawbacks such as generating discrete events and insufficient smoothness in numerical solutions. By introducing enhancements such as smoothness indicator nodal function and moving least squares approach, the Finite Volume method with Exact two-material Riemann problems (FIVER) can deliver smooth and differentiable results for various FSI applications.

Active Manifold and Model-Order Reduction to Accelerate Multidisciplinary Analysis and Optimization

Gabriele Boncoraglio et al.

Summary: A computational framework utilizing projection-based reduced-order models and active manifold concept was proposed to efficiently solve MDAO problems in high-dimensional design parameter space. The results demonstrate the potential of the active manifold concept in mitigating the curse of dimensionality and reducing solution time for realistic MDAO problems.
