Reversible embroidered ball-like antireflective structure arrays inspired by leafhopper wings

Pei-Chun Li et al.

Summary: The highly transparent leafhopper wings are decorated with embroidered ball-shaped proteinaceous brochosomes as effective anti-predator defenses. Inspired by this, a new reversible antireflection coating has been developed using shape memory polymer, exhibiting omnidirectional antireflective characteristics in visible light and the ability to instantly erase and recover transparency through immersion in liquids or applying pressure. The study systematically evaluates the reversibility and structure shape effects on the antireflective properties.

Broader-Band and Flexible Antireflective Films with the Window-like Structures Inspired by the Backside of Butterfly Wing Scales

Hanliang Ding et al.

Summary: The work successfully developed a flexible ARF inspired by butterfly wing scales, achieving nearly 90% transmission in visible light and over 90% in the infrared region. It enhanced transmission by 13% under standard illumination compared to flat PDMS films. The ARF is flexible enough to bend nearly 180 degrees to meet special antireflection requirements in extreme conditions, potentially revolutionizing technologies of broader-band antireflective materials and impacting various applications.
