In this study, heterostructures of hollow Fe3O4/FeP spheres coated with a carbon shell were designed to improve lithium storage performance. The H-Fe3O4/FeP@C spheres exhibited good rate performance and long cyclic performance, and the underlying mechanism was explained by density functional theory calculations. Additionally, the hollow structure of the H-Fe3O4/FeP@C spheres alleviated volume expansion and shortened Li ion diffusion distance.
