Visible light activated MoS2/ZnO composites for photocatalytic degradation of ciprofloxacin antibiotic and hydrogen production

Y. M. Hunge et al.

Summary: In the process of photocatalysis, photon energy is converted into chemical energy using light and catalyst. This process has various applications such as degradation of hazardous compounds, nitrogen fixation, hydrogen production, air purification, water splitting, and carbon dioxide reduction. The study focuses on the synthesis of ZnO and MoS2/ZnO composites and their applications in photocatalytic degradation of ciprofloxacin antibiotic and hydrogen production. The MoS2/ZnO composites show superior photocatalytic activity compared to ZnO, attributed to extended light absorption capacity, effective charge transfer, suitable band alignment, and minimum recombination of charge carriers.

Enhanced Photocatalytic Degradation Activity Using the V2O5/RGO Composite

Anuja A. Yadav et al.

Summary: Semiconductor-based photocatalyst materials have played a crucial role in the degradation of organic compounds. Photocatalysis is a simple, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly method for degrading organic compounds. In this study, vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) and V2O5/RGO (reduced graphene oxide) composite materials were synthesized using a hydrothermal method. The prepared samples were characterized using various techniques. Raman analysis confirmed the presence of RGO characteristic peaks in the composite and different vibrational modes of V2O5. The V2O5/RGO composite exhibited superior photocatalytic performance compared to V2O5, indicating the importance of both the catalyst and light in the degradation process.

Kinetic and thermodynamic studies of the degradation of methylene blue by photo-Fenton reaction

Ibrahim Raheb et al.

Summary: The Syrian natural magnetite was used in a photoFenton reaction to remove methylene blue from aqueous solutions. Kinetic and thermodynamic parameters were evaluated, with the pseudo-first-order model being more suitable for describing the degradation process. The activation energy values indicated a low energy barrier for the degradation reaction, and thermodynamic parameters suggested the process was endothermic and spontaneous.
