Organic foams stabilized by Biphenyl-bridged organosilica particles

Andong Feng et al.

Summary: This study investigated the wettability of particles and designed particles that can stabilize foams in aromatic solvents. The experimental results showed that particles containing biphenyl rings and short alkyl chains achieved a high foam volume fraction in aromatic solvents. These findings are of great significance for applications in the field of foam materials.

Microfluidic Device for Monitoring Catalytic Events on Armored Bubbles

Dmytro Dedovets et al.

Summary: A polydimethylsiloxane-based microfluidic device allows monitoring local oxidation events in organic solvents at the level of an individual air bubble armored with surface-active low-surface energy catalytic particles. This new technique permits tunable design of microreactors for gas-liquid-solid reactions.

From Individual Liquid Films to Macroscopic Foam Dynamics: A Comparison between Polymers and a Nonionic Surfactant

Alesya Mikhailovskaya et al.

Summary: This study compares the macroscopic drainage and collapse behavior of aqueous foams stabilized by different stabilizers and investigates the dynamic behavior of individual thin films. The comparison provides significant insight into the effect of surface stresses and intermolecular forces on foam stability. The study observes distinct foam lifetime regimes and reveals unique coalescence behavior in PVA foams.

Probing foams from the nanometer to the millimeter scale by coupling small-angle neutron scattering, imaging, and electrical conductivity measurements

Julien Lamolinairie et al.

Summary: Liquid foams are complex multi-scale structures that require a combination of different techniques for characterization. Researchers have developed a new device that allows simultaneous time-resolved investigation of foams using small-angle neutron scattering, electrical conductivity, and bubble imaging. This device enables comprehensive characterization of foam and its aging from nanometer to centimeter scale in a single experiment.

Methacrylate-Based Polymer Foams with Controllable Pore Sizes and Controllable Polydispersities via Foamed Emulsion Templating

Miriam Lucia Dabrowski et al.

Summary: This study introduces a novel templating route using foamed emulsions as templates for porous polymers. The combination of foamed emulsion templating and microfluidics is shown to be effective in synthesizing polymer foams with controlled pore sizes and polydispersities, including monodisperse and polydisperse foams with varying bubble sizes. The study also demonstrates the generation of polydisperse poly(1,4-BDDMA) foams with different polydispersities but the same mean pore sizes as the monodisperse ones.

Leaching Foams for Copper and Silver Dissolution: A Proof of Concept of a More Environmentally Friendly Process for the Recovery of Critical Metals

Pierre Trinh et al.

Summary: The study focuses on using aqueous leaching foams for efficient oxidation and dissolution of metals in electronic waste, extending the concept to ozone for oxidizing other metals, and improving metal dissolution by using anionic surfactants. These promising results offer new recycling routes for metals in electronic waste, with a lower environmental footprint.

Removal of antibiotics from aqueous solution by using porous adsorbent templated from eco-friendly Pickering aqueous foams

Hui Yu et al.

Summary: A novel porous adsorbent was fabricated via thermal-initiated polymerization of Pickering aqueous foams stabilized by natural sepiolite and pine pollen. The adsorbents exhibited excellent adsorption performance and hierarchical porous structure for the removal of antibiotics from aqueous solution, achieving high equilibrium adsorption capacities within a short time. This eco-friendly approach provides a potential solution for wastewater treatment using porous adsorbents.
