Controlled design for integration of FeP into 3D carbon frameworks for superior Na storage

Jiali Jiang et al.

Summary: Integrating N, P-functionalized carbon frameworks with FeP nanoparticles through recrystallization self-assembly process results in a unique heterostructure that enhances kinetics reaction and structural stability, reducing fracture and aggregation risks. The FeP@PNC electrode shows superior reversible capability, rate capability, and prolonged cycling life for sodium storage, attributed to the promotion of charge transfer and interaction between active nanoparticles and Na atoms facilitated by the interface between FeP and carbon with vacancy.

High-entropy chemistry stabilizing spinel oxide (CoNiZnXMnLi)3O4 (X = Fe, Cr) for high-performance anode of Li-ion batteries

Kang-Hui Tian et al.

Summary: High entropy oxides (HEOs) have shown promising application prospects in energy storage, and the six-element HEOs with spinel structure exhibit outstanding lithium storage performances due to synergy effect and entropy stabilization. Among them, (CoNiZnFeMnLi)3O-4 delivers higher initial discharge specific capacity, better cycle stability, and rate performance in the half-cell. Ex situ X-ray diffraction reveals the electrochemical reaction mechanism, contributing to the excellent cycle and rate performance. This research provides fresh insights for the development of advanced energy storage materials for high-performance batteries.

Manufacture of carbon-bonded alumina based on a lactose-tannin binder system via slip casting

Xian Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, environmentally friendly lactose and tannin were used as main binders to replace the hazardous coal tar pitch binder in the manufacturing of Al2O3-C refractory materials. By slip casting, compact cylinders with reduced pitch content were successfully prepared. Mechanical tests showed that specimens with lactose-tannin ratios of 5:1, 4:1, and 3:1 exhibited considerable cold crushing strengths.

Hierarchical porous carbon derived from coal and biomass for high performance supercapacitors

Xiaoyun Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, soluble portions obtained from the co-thermal dissolution of rice husk and coal were used as carbon precursors to synthesize 3D hierarchical porous carbons. The electrochemical properties of the resulting carbons were investigated, and the results showed that the composition of the carbon precursors played a crucial role in determining the characteristics of the carbon materials. Nitrogen-containing organic matters in the precursors improved the conductivity, while oxygen-containing compounds contributed to pseudocapacitance. Moreover, carbon precursors with a high content of unsaturated structures exhibited excellent electrochemical properties.

Self-assembly of Fe3O4 with natural tannin as composites for microalgal harvesting

Xiaoyu Wang et al.

Summary: By using natural polymeric tannin as the shaping ligand, the self-assembly of tannin-coated Fe3O4 was controlled for microalgal magnetic harvesting. The tannin-coated Fe3O4 showed smaller size, higher magnetic saturation, and higher uptake capacity compared to bare Fe3O4. It also exhibited good recycling potential and the magnetic force played a critical role in the overall interaction energies.
