Recent progress in the construction and applications of metal-organic frameworks and covalent-organic frameworks-based nanozymes

Limin Zheng et al.

Summary: Nanozymes, a type of catalytic nanomaterials with enzymatic properties, have gained significant interest in recent years due to their stability and cost-effectiveness. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent-organic frameworks (COFs) as emerging organic framework materials have attracted attention for their high surface area and flexible nano-scale porosity, which can be designed to mimic ideal enzyme activities. This review introduces MOFs-based and COFs-based nanozymes, discusses their construction and composition, summarizes their applications in sensing and therapy, and briefly discusses the current development status, challenges, and future prospects of MOFs and COFs-based nanozymes to promote wider applications.

The heterostructurally mixed-linkage covalent organic frameworks for different fluorescence responses to alkaloids

Yuping Cao et al.

Summary: Overdose of alkaloid drugs can cause significant damage to the human body. However, research on detecting alkaloids is limited, so there is an urgent need to develop a simple method for detecting alkaloids. In this study, four COFs (TbAzo, HTbAzo, DHTbAzo, and TpAzo) were synthesized with different ratios of beta-ketoenamine/imine. HTbAzo showed unique photoluminescence behavior and had higher fluorescence emission than the other COFs in water. HTbAzo demonstrated different fluorescence responses to isoniazid (ratiometric) and colchicine (turn-off) with very low detection limits. It was also able to detect isoniazid and colchicine in human serum and monitor pH in water. This work provides a new idea for enhancing the luminescence performance of COFs and demonstrates the multifunctional application of HTbAzo in real life.

Toward Covalent Organic Framework Metastructures

Song Wang et al.

Summary: The direct synthesis of metastructured assemblies of two-dimensional (2D) polymers, specifically 2D covalent organic frameworks (COFs), in solution has been demonstrated. These metastructures exhibit unique optical and mechanical properties under visible-near-infrared light, making them suitable for novel particulate optical devices with high sensitivity for information collection and storage. The self-assembly of 2D polymers into metastructures may lead to the development of functional materials with unprecedented properties and applications.
