Construction 0D/2D heterojunction by highly dispersed Ag2S quantum dots (QDs) loaded on the g-C3N4 nanosheets for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution

Ziyi You et al.

Summary: The study successfully prepared a novel 0D/2D heterojunction nanocomposite (Ag2S QDs/g-C3N4) with excellent photocatalytic performance, achieving a high hydrogen evolution rate and apparent quantum efficiency. The enhanced activity was attributed to energy band broadening of Ag2S QDs and efficient charge transfer between g-C3N4 and Ag2S QDs. Semiconductor-based quantum dots are shown to be strong candidates for excellent cocatalysts in photocatalysis.

Constructing an ohmic junction of copper@ cuprous oxide nanocomposite with plasmonic enhancement for photocatalysis

Benlin Dai et al.

Summary: A novel ohmic junction Cu@Cu2O photocatalyst with plasmonic enhancement was successfully obtained by NaBH4 reduction, showing excellent photocatalytic performance for the catalytic oxidation of nitric oxide (NO) and catalytic reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2). The desirable performance can be attributed to efficient interfacial charge separation and high light absorption induced by the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) of Cu nanoparticles. Various characterization methods were used to investigate the composition, structure, and optical properties of the sample. The separation efficiency of photogenerated carriers was studied, and simulation and experiments confirmed the plasmonic ohmic junction photocatalytic mechanism.

Multifunctional magnetic Fe3O4/Cu2O-Ag nanocomposites with high sensitivity for SERS detection and efficient visible light-driven photocatalytic degradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)

Jie Huang et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel multifunctional nanocomposites (NCs) were developed for ultrasensitive surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) detection and visible light-driven photocatalytic degradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). The NCs exhibited excellent SERS sensitivity attributed to the synergistic interplay of electromagnetic and chemical enhancement. The optimal SERS substrates showed low limits of detection for various PAHs and could effectively detect PAHs in actual soil environment. Additionally, a simple SERS method was used to monitor the photocatalytic process of PAHs. The magnetic multifunctional NCs allowed for the recovery and reuse, maintaining their outstanding SERS and photocatalytic performance even after eight cycles. This study provides a unique idea for integrating ultrasensitive SERS detection and efficient photocatalytic degradation of PAHs, with promising prospects in environmental protection.

Built-in electric field enabled in carbon-doped Bi3O4Br nanocrystals for excellent photodegradation of PAHs

Jing Ji et al.

Summary: A new type of solar active carbon-doped Bi3O4Br catalyst was synthesized by combining hydrothermal and post-thermal treatment. The activity of the material under sunlight and visible light was 3.3 times and 2.7 times that of Bi3O4Br, respectively. C-doping on Bi3O4Br nanosheets increased the built-in electric field strength, thus enhancing the photocatalytic activity.

Adsorption Behaviors of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons and Oxygen Derivatives in Wastewater on N-Doped Reduced Graphene Oxide

Tiantian Song et al.

Summary: Nitrogen-doped reduced graphene oxide (NRGO) synthesized via a hydrothermal method exhibited high mesoporosity and hydrophobicity, along with remarkable adsorption efficiency for removing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and their oxygen derivatives. The adsorption capacity of NRGO for anthracene and 2-methylanthraquinone was significantly higher compared to graphene oxide and reduced graphene oxide, potentially due to simultaneous involvement of intraparticle diffusion, hydrophobic effects, and pi-pi interactions in the adsorption process. Additionally, NRGO could be effectively regenerated using ethanol, suggesting its potential for environmental applications in removing low concentrations of PAHs and OPAHs from wastewater.
