Nanodrug enhances post-ablation immunotherapy of hepatocellular carcinoma via promoting dendritic cell maturation and antigen presentation

Zecong Xiao et al.

Summary: Thermal ablation is an effective method for treating hepatocellular carcinoma, but it faces challenges of high recurrence and metastasis. The combination of immune-checkpoint blockade and thermal ablation has shown little progress in treating HCC. However, a study found that using a modified nanoplatform to deliver tumor-associated antigens and a demethylases inhibitor can improve the immune response to tumor growth and metastasis, synergizing with immune-checkpoint blockade treatment.

Tailoring a UCST-LCST-pH Multiresponsive Window through a Single Polymer Complex of Chitosan-Hyaluronic Acid

Sarunya Phunpee et al.

Summary: Multistimuli-responsive polymers are important for controlled release, but their decoration is limited due to their derivation from vinyl-based monomers. In this study, polymers with different critical solution temperatures were introduced onto chitosan and hyaluronic acid, resulting in a polymer system with a multiresponsive window. By adjusting the mole ratio and pH, the encapsulation and release of lysozyme were controlled repeatably.

Mechanism and regulation of LCST behavior in poly(hydroxypropyl acrylate)-based temperature-sensitive hydrogels

Fuping Chen et al.

Summary: Hydrogels with LCST behavior undergo significant changes at their transition temperature, which are influenced by the hydrogen bond between the polymer and water, as well as the mobility of the polymer chains. This study discusses the changes that occurred in temperature-sensitive PHPA hydrogels and proposes a method to regulate their LCST behavior by modifying the state of water and the mobility of molecular chains through the addition of different ions, crosslinkers, and co-solvents. The resulting PHPA hydrogels exhibit a wide LCST range, adjustable transition rates, and broad transition windows, which could expand their applications and provide insights for regulating other LCST hydrogels.

Nonionic UCST-LCST Diblock Copolymers with Tunable Thermoresponsiveness Synthesized via PhotoRAFT Polymerization

Jingcong Xu et al.

Summary: A nonionic double thermoresponsive diblock copolymer with UCST and LCST phase transitions was synthesized using eco-friendly polymerization technology. One block is responsible for the LCST transition, while the other block is responsible for the UCST transition. The formation of micellar aggregates in water at specific temperatures was confirmed, and the temperature interval between UCST and LCST can be tailored by adjusting the comonomer ratio in the copolymer block.

Design of an LCST-UCST-Like Thermoresponsive Zwitterionic Copolymer

Nobuyuki Morimoto et al.

Summary: In this study, a thermoresponsive polymer ZB-PEG with both LCST and UCST-like behaviors was prepared using RAFT copolymerization. Different microstructures of ZB-PEG were formed in PBS by adjusting the composition of PEG, and these states were found to be reversible via temperature control. This behavior showed high reversibility and successfully stabilized HRP in dilute conditions, making ZB-PEG applicable for a wide range of applications in biotechnology and other fields.
