Summary: The study found that although most trainees had received some education on informed consent, many of them did not fully adhere to the required consent procedures in practice. Trainees who had received education on informed consent were more likely to address key elements in the consent process. There is a disconnect between trainees' perceptions of their knowledge and skill in relation to informed consent and their actual practice, highlighting the need for greater emphasis on explicit teaching and formal assessment during surgical training.
