Predictability of HOMA-IR for Gestational Diabetes Mellitus in Early Pregnancy Based on Different First Trimester BMI Values

Yanbei Duo et al.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the ability of homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) in early pregnancy for predicting gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in Chinese women with different first-trimester body mass index (FT-BMI) values. The results show that increased HOMA-IR in early pregnancy is a risk factor for GDM, and HOMA-IR can be affected by body weight. The cutoff value of HOMA-IR to predict GDM should be distinguished by different FT-BMI values.

Prenatal Factors Associated with Maternal Cardiometabolic Risk Markers during Pregnancy: The ECLIPSES Study

Ehsan Motevalizadeh et al.

Summary: This prospective cohort study conducted in Catalonia, Spain, aimed to examine the associations between sociodemographic, lifestyle, and clinical factors with cardiometabolic risk and its components during pregnancy. The study found that overweight/obesity, lower education level, and lack of physical activity were associated with an increased cardiometabolic risk in early pregnancy, while overweight/obesity, insufficient gestational weight gain, and higher social class were associated with a decreased cardiometabolic risk in the third trimester.

HOMA-IR as a risk factor of gestational diabetes mellitus and a novel simple surrogate index in early pregnancy

Shuoning Song et al.

Summary: Increased insulin resistance in early pregnancy was found to be a risk factor for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). The TyHGB index was identified as a surrogate index of HOMA-IR and showed predictive value for mild insulin resistance.

Prenatal adherence to the Mediterranean diet decreases the risk of having a small-for-gestational-age baby, ECLIPSES study

Andres Diaz-Lopez et al.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between adherence to a Mediterranean diet during pregnancy and foetal growth. The results showed that pregnant women who followed the Mediterranean diet had a lower risk of delivering a small-for-gestational-age baby, but there was no association with birth weight, length, and head circumference.

Nutrition during Pregnancy: Findings from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) Fetal Growth Studies-Singleton Cohort

Stefanie N. Hinkle et al.

Summary: Research indicates that most pregnant women in this cohort did not meet the US Dietary Guidelines for nonpregnant individuals on average. Dietary intake varied across race/ethnic groups and prepregnancy BMI, with the lowest overall dietary quality in all trimesters among non-Hispanic Black women and women with obesity. No significant changes in dietary intake were observed between the second and third trimesters.
