Developing agri-food value chains: learning networks between exploration and exploitation

Summary: This study explores the development of agri-food value chains from an organizational learning perspective, using the German organic food sector as a case study. The research identifies three phases in the development process of value chains and highlights the importance of both intra- and inter-organizational learning as well as explorative and exploitative activities. The study provides practical implications for the professionalization of value chain development and theoretical implications for understanding collaboration in inter-organizational settings.

Collaborative research as boundary work: learning between rice growers and conservation professionals to support habitat conservation on private lands

The value of values-based supply chains: farmer perspective

How to swarm? Organizing for sustainable and equitable food systems transformation in a time of crisis

Summary: Accelerating food systems transformation in the face of global crises requires re-thinking the roles of agricultural research for development (AR4D). In this perspective article, the metaphor of 'swarms' and 'swarming' is used to illustrate a distributed way of working that can help AR4D researchers and institutions step up the pace and scale for food systems transformation. The authors identify four roles for AR4D within swarmed design and highlight the need for collaboration in four priority areas to create an enabling environment for these roles.

Ecosystems of Collaboration for Sustainability-Oriented Innovation: The Importance of Values in the Agri-Food Value-Chain
