Improved resistance prediction and reliability for bridge pile foundation in shales through optimal site investigation plans

Opeyemi E. Oluwatuyi et al.

Summary: This study developed an optimal site investigation plan to minimize geological and ground uncertainties in pile design, improve efficiency, and enhance economic benefits. The proposed method integrates the plan with static analysis, improving the quality of geomaterial information used in pile resistance prediction. The effectiveness of the method was demonstrated through load tests, reducing prediction errors and increasing resistance factors for redundant piles, resulting in significant cost savings.

A Quantitative Framework to Evaluate the Seismic Resilience of Hospital Systems

Qingxue Shang et al.

Summary: A framework for quantitatively evaluating the seismic resilience of hospital systems is proposed, which categorizes a typical hospital system and quantifies importance factors for different functional units, subsystems, and components. Seismic resilience is quantified based on probabilistic seismic fragility analysis, and recovery time is calculated considering an idealized repair path. The loss of functionality of the hospital is evaluated by summing the weighted economic losses of all components. A case study of a hospital building is conducted to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed framework.

Earthquake Resilience Framework for a Stormwater Pipe Infrastructure System Integrating the Best Worst Method and Dempster-Shafer Theory

Maryam Garshasbi et al.

Summary: This study proposes a resilience assessment framework for stormwater pipe infrastructure facing earthquake hazards using Hierarchical Evidential Reasoning (HER) based on the Dempster-Shafer (D-S) theory. The developed framework was applied in the City of Regina, SK, Canada to quantify the resilience of the stormwater pipe infrastructure. Various resilience factors were identified and their weights were determined using the Best Worst Method (BWM). The recommended earthquake resilience assessment model produced satisfying outcomes, displaying the condition state of resilience with the degree of uncertainty.

Assessing the performance of unmanned aerial vehicle for logistics and transportation leveraging the Bayesian network approach

Niamat Ullah Ibne Hossain et al.

Summary: This study uses a Bayesian network approach to predict the overall performance of drone technology, evaluating it through four main factors: physical specification, technical response, functional performance, and economic cost. The results indicate that the economic factor is most critical to the overall performance of drones when the physical specification criteria are met.

Modelling and assessing sustainability of a supply chain network leveraging multi Echelon Bayesian Network

Safae El Amrani et al.

Summary: Supply chain sustainability (SCS) is an approach that considers the environmental, economic, and social aspects of the supply chain processes when designing a supply chain network. It is important to integrate sustainability practices in different phases of the supply chain and encourage organizations to orient their efforts toward designing sustainable supply chains. Results from the study show that economic sustainability has a slightly higher effect on the supply chain sustainability index (SCSI) prediction compared to the social criteria.
