Through narratives we learn: Exploring knowledge-building as a marketing strategy for prosocial water reuse

Han-fen Hu et al.

Summary: Planned water reuse is a viable solution to increase potable water supplies, but consumers' low acceptance of treated wastewater remains a critical obstacle. This study investigates the factors affecting consumers' acceptance of planned water reuse, including knowledge, narrative framing, media credibility, and individual culture. The results show that actual and perceived knowledge influence trust, attitude, and intention to consume reuse water. Long-term orientation of consumers also plays a role in acceptance, while message emphasis and media credibility do not.

Water scarcity and alternative water sources in South Africa: can information provision shift perceptions?

Fransiscus Xaverius Prins et al.

Summary: Consumer perceptions play a crucial role in the success of strategies to address water scarcity. This study found that information provision can significantly influence consumer attitudes towards alternative water sources, particularly in increasing acceptance of reclaimed wastewater. The results also showed that direct reuse is more accepted than indirect reuse in situations of severe water scarcity.

Mind (for) the water: An indirect relationship between mindfulness and water conservation behavior

Maria C. Pereira et al.

Summary: A growing body of research has linked mindfulness with the adoption of environmentally friendly behaviors. This study contributes to this research by proposing a model that suggests an indirect relationship between mindfulness and a specific pro-environmental behavior - water conservation. The findings highlight the mediating roles of environmental beliefs and consumer abilities in this relationship.

A role for water markets in enhancing water security in the western United States?: Lessons from the Walker River Basin

Elizabeth A. Koebele et al.

Summary: Climate change and changing water use priorities are posing challenges to water security in semi-arid, snow-fed river systems. Implementing water markets can enhance water security by adapting to these changes. A study conducted in the Walker River Basin in the western United States found that actors across sectors desire changes to traditional water allocation institutions and view markets as an acceptable tool for reallocation. Markets that facilitate temporary water trading are generally preferred.

Ulrich Knief et al.

Summary: The study finds that Gaussian models are robust to non-normal data, with p values remaining reliable in most conditions and showing good power. Parameter estimates are mostly unbiased and precise, except in cases of influential outliers or small sample sizes/highly skewed predictor distributions. Data transformation and visual inspection for outliers and heteroscedasticity are recommended before analysis.
