N95 reprocessing by low temperature sterilization with 59% vaporized hydrogen peroxide during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic

Maimuna Jatta et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that decontamination of N95 respirators with 59% hydrogen peroxide vapor has no significant impact on filtration efficiency or fit testing. This method can be safely used to decontaminate single-use N95 respirators in healthcare settings facing shortages during the COVID-19 pandemic. Further research and implementation may help address the ongoing challenges related to PPE shortages worldwide.

Inactivation of Prions by Low-Temperature Sterilization Technology Using Vaporized Gas Derived from a Hydrogen Peroxide-Peracetic Acid Mixture

Akikazu Sakudo et al.

Summary: The study showed that vaporized gas derived from a hydrogen peroxide-peracetic acid mixture can effectively inactivate prions and prolong the survival time of mice injected with prion samples. This method may be applied to the sterilization of contaminated heat-sensitive medical devices.

How Microbes Defend Themselves From Incoming Hydrogen Peroxide

Ananya Sen et al.

Summary: Microbes rely on iron as a cofactor for enzymes, but ROS attack can cause damage, and some bacteria sense H2O2 via transcription factors. Bacteria activate defense strategies to reduce H2O2 concentration and repair damage to defend against ROS.
