Does the carbon emissions trading system reduce carbon emissions by promoting two-way FDI in developing countries? Evidence from Chinese listed companies and cities

Guangcheng Ma et al.

Summary: How developing countries can effectively promote cities' carbon emission reduction through the carbon emission trading system (ETS) is a topic worthy of attention in the global carbon reduction campaign. Policy changes in China's ETS provide a unique opportunity to measure whether ETS impacts carbon emissions through two-way FDI. The study finds that the ETS pilot policy's emission reduction policy significantly inhibited pilot cities' carbon emissions through two-way FDI, with the positive effects of technical effect and scale effect being relatively large.

Whether the carbon emissions trading system improves energy efficiency-Empirical testing based on China?s provincial panel data

Malin Song et al.

Summary: Improving energy efficiency is crucial for China as it faces the challenge of achieving its double carbon goal. The carbon trading system, as a key environmental measure, may have a significant impact on energy efficiency. This study uses a difference-in-difference model to test whether carbon trading systems can improve energy efficiency through a quasi-natural experiment. The results show that both static and dynamic effect analysis support the idea that carbon trading improves energy efficiency.
