First evidence of neonicotinoid insecticides in human bile and associated hepatotoxicity risk

Yuanchen Chen et al.

Summary: The study investigated the residues of neonicotinoid pesticides in human bile and found that human livers have low degradation ability for these pesticides. The main residues were nitenpyram and dinotefuran, which contributed to 86% of the total residual levels. The study also found different distribution patterns of neonicotinoids in blood and bile.

Urinary Concentrations of Dialkylphosphate Metabolites of Organophosphate pesticides in the Study of Asian Women and their Offspring's Development and Environmental Exposures (SAWASDEE)

Brittney O. Baumert et al.

Summary: The study conducted among pregnant farmworkers in northern Thailand showed that collecting multiple urine samples improved the accuracy of assessing prenatal exposure. Composite analysis of urine samples also provided trimester-specific exposure information while reducing costs. Additionally, two different exposure profiles were observed, highly linked to the residential location of the participants.

Development of an analytical method based on solid-phase extraction and LC-MS/MS for the monitoring of current-use pesticides and their metabolites in human urine

Beibei Gao et al.

Summary: This study successfully determined the levels of 13 pesticides and their metabolites in human urine samples using solid-phase extraction and liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. The detection frequencies of these pesticides and metabolites were found to be relatively high in human urine samples.

Long-Term Exposure to Neonicotinoid Insecticide Acetamiprid at Environmentally Relevant Concentrations Impairs Endocrine Functions in Zebrafish: Bioaccumulation, Feminization, and Transgenerational Effects

Xue Ma et al.

Summary: This study found that long-term exposure to acetamiprid may cause feminization and reproductive dysfunction in zebrafish, as well as impair the production and development of their offspring. Acetamiprid also affected hormone production and the transcription levels of related genes in fish.

Pesticides in Drinking Water-A Review

Muhammad Syafrudin et al.

Summary: The presence of pesticides in water bodies poses potential health risks to humans, with traditional treatment methods being costly and potentially causing secondary pollution. Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) are seen as a cleaner and more effective treatment technology for water contaminated with pesticides.

Occurrence of neonicotinoid insecticides and their metabolites in tooth samples collected from south China: Associations with periodontitis

Nan Zhang et al.

Summary: NEOs are widely used in agricultural production processes in China and worldwide, with concerns growing over their potential toxicity to nontarget organisms. This study measured levels of parent NEOs and metabolites in tooth samples collected from South China, finding frequent detection of NEOs in the samples, gender-related differences in NEO levels, and associations between NEO exposure and periodontitis. The study suggests that NEO levels are associated with increased odds of prevalent periodontitis.

Risk of pesticide pollution at the global scale

Fiona H. M. Tang et al.

Summary: Pesticides are widely used in agriculture to protect food production but also pose risks to water quality, biodiversity, and human health. A global study found that 64% of agricultural land worldwide is at risk of pesticide pollution, with 31% at high risk, particularly in areas with high biodiversity and water scarcity. High-concern regions such as South Africa, China, India, Australia, and Argentina were identified as facing high pesticide pollution risk, high biodiversity, and water scarcity issues.
