Effect of mobile-phase modifiers on the enantioselective retention behavior of methyl mandelate with an amylose 3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamate chiral stationary phase under reversed-phase conditions

Hung-Wei Tsui et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of organic modifiers on the enantioselective retention behavior of methyl mandelate in reversed-phase chiral liquid chromatography. A two-site enantioselective model was proposed to explain the recognition mechanisms. The results showed that modifiers with more carbon numbers facilitated the transition in the enantioselective behaviors. This method provides a quantitative description of enantioselective retention behavior in reversed-phase mode.

Chiral separation of oxazolidinone analogues by liquid chromatography on polysaccharide stationary phases using polar organic mode

Mate Dobo et al.

Summary: The enantioseparation of four oxazolidinone and one biosimilar thiazolidine derivatives was performed on seven different polysaccharide-type chiral stationary phases, with Amylose-based columns providing the highest enantioselectivities. Replacing an oxygen with a sulfur atom in the backbone of the studied analytes significantly alters the enantiomer recognition mechanism. Additionally, reversal of enantiomer elution order and hysteresis of retention and enantioselectivity were observed, which can be further utilized for fine-tuning chiral separation performance of the studied columns.

Unravelling functions of halogen substituents in the enantioseparation of halogenated planar chiral ferrocenes on polysaccharide-based chiral stationary phases: experimental and electrostatic potential analyses

Barbara Sechi et al.

Summary: Planar chiral halogenated ferrocenes have been widely used as synthetic intermediates for the preparation of functionalized derivatives in various fields. However, the preparation of enantiopure halogenated planar chiral ferrocenes through asymmetric synthesis is still limited. In this study, the enantioseparation of eleven dihalogenated planar chiral ferrocenes was systematically explored using polysaccharide-based chiral stationary phases (CSPs) under multimodal elution conditions. The impact of CSP structure, mobile phase polarity, and halogen substituents on the enantioseparation was evaluated. The results provide insights into the enantioseparation of halogenated planar chiral ferrocenes and the underlying mechanisms at the molecular level.

Synthesis, Mesomorphic Properties and Application of (R,S)-1-Methylpentyl 4′-Hydroxybiphenyl-4-carboxylate Derivatives

Magdalena Urbanska et al.

Summary: Thirteen new liquid crystalline racemic mixtures were synthesized and studied. The phase sequences, phase transition temperatures, and transition enthalpies of these mixtures were determined by POM and DSC. The results showed that all the new racemates have an anticlinic smectic C-A phase in a broad temperature range, and doping with racemates can increase the helical pitch of highly tilted antiferroelectric mixtures.
