Dipolar particles trapped in a cylindrical pore

A. Mourad et al.

Summary: A strong confinement, especially in quasi one-dimensional systems, greatly affects the phase behavior and physico-chemical properties of substances. This study theoretically investigates the ground state phase diagram of dipolar hard spheres as a function of the pore opening in cylindrical pores. It is found that long pores prevent chain undulation and lead to the emergence of wall-contact-free linear chain bundles. These findings provide insights into recent experimental observations with magnetic colloids in microtubes and have potential applications in other fields.

Columnar dipolar clusters defying gravity

Ebenezer Kemgang et al.

Summary: This paper theoretically investigates the influence of gravity on the self-assembly of dipolar particles near a surface in the presence of a strong vertical magnetic field and discovers different phenomena such as chain fragmentation and ribbonization. Additionally, it predicts the relationship between gravity and the number of particles, which is in good agreement with experimental data.

Aggregation of superparamagnetic colloids strongly confined in spherical cavities under magnetic fields

P. X. Viveros-Mendez et al.

Summary: The study investigates aggregates of superparamagnetic colloids confined in liposomes in the presence of an external magnetic field using computer simulations. Two methods, conventional Monte Carlo simulations and cluster-moving Monte Carlo method, were employed to analyze the structures formed by secondary particles. Results indicate a dependence on the number of particles and the ratio of cavity-colloid diameters.
