Ring-Polymer Instanton Tunneling Splittings of Tropolone and Isotopomers using a ?-Machine Learned CCSD(T) Potential: Theory and Experiment Shake Hands

Apurba Nandi et al.

Summary: In this study, we successfully describe the H-transfer tunneling dynamics of the Tropolone molecule by developing a high-level potential energy surface and simulating quantum-mechanical tunneling effects. The calculations on the corrected potential energy surface are in good agreement with experimental results, and show significant improvement compared to calculations based on a low-level DFT surface. The subtle changes in the splittings for some heavy-atom isotopomers observed experimentally are also reproduced and explained.

Instanton theory for Fermi's golden rule and beyond

Imaad M. Ansari et al.

Summary: Instanton theory provides a semiclassical approximation for computing quantum tunnelling effects in complex molecular systems. In this work, the theory is extended to treat non-adiabatic reactions described by Fermi's golden rule, and applied to simulate electron transfer processes.

NAST: Nonadiabatic Statistical Theory Package for Predicting Kinetics of Spin-Dependent Processes

Vsevolod D. Dergachev et al.

Summary: We present a nonadiabatic statistical theory (NAST) package for predicting kinetics of spin-dependent processes. The package can calculate the probabilities and rates of transitions between electronic states and account for quantum effects. It can be applied to large molecular systems and used to study slow nonadiabatic processes.

Heavy-Atom Quantum Tunnelling in Spin Crossovers of Nitrenes

Eric R. Heller et al.

Summary: This study simulates two recent matrix-isolation experiments at cryogenic temperatures, revealing the failure of the commonly used weak-coupling method in describing deep-tunneling reactions. However, the more rigorous approach of semiclassical golden-rule instanton theory combined with double-hybrid density-functional theory and multireference perturbation theory successfully reproduces rate constants and kinetic isotope effects in good agreement with experiment. Additionally, these calculations identify the optimal tunnelling pathways, providing a molecular picture of the reaction mechanism.

Spin Crossover of Thiophosgene via Multidimensional Heavy-Atom Quantum Tunneling

Eric R. Heller et al.

Summary: The study investigates the spin-crossover reaction of thiophosgene and proposes the semiclassical golden-rule instanton theory. It is found that the increase in the speed of the spin-crossover reaction is mainly attributed to multidimensional quantum tunneling effects.

A shock-tube study of the N2O + M ⇆ N2 + O + M (M = Ar) rate constant using N2O laser absorption near 4.6 μm

Clayton R. Mulvihill et al.

Summary: This study measured the low-pressure limit rate constant of the N2O + M reaction using laser absorption spectroscopy and analyzed the results with excellent agreement with historical data. The determined expression for the rate constant showed better stability and precision over a wide temperature range.
