Nanoscopic jets and filaments of superfluid 4He at zero temperature: A DFT study

Francesco Ancilotto et al.

Summary: The instability of a cryogenic He-4 jet leads to the formation of He-4 drops, which are ideal for spectroscopic studies. We propose a He-density functional theory (DFT) to describe the droplet formation resulting from jet breaking and contraction of superfluid He-4 filaments. Fragmentation of long jets follows linear theory, while contraction of filaments with a high aspect ratio leads to the nucleation of vortex rings, hindering droplet breakup.

Micrometer-sized droplets from liquid helium jets at low stagnation pressures

Katharina Kolatzki et al.

Summary: This study examines droplets and droplet beams produced from liquid helium jets in vacuum at low stagnation pressures. It discovers diverse characteristics of the droplet beam at different nozzle pressures, and highlights the influence of disturbance frequencies on droplet beam behavior. The study also reveals the effects of droplet coagulation and superfluidity on droplet properties.

Clustering, collision, and relaxation dynamics in pure and doped helium nanoclusters: Density- vs particle-based approaches

Ernesto Garcia-Alfonso et al.

Summary: This theoretical study investigates the clustering, collision, and relaxation dynamics of pristine and doped helium nanodroplets using three different methods. It is found that the growth of argon clusters is significantly hindered by the helium host droplet, and the effects of superfluidity are manifested in different collision dynamics and oscillations.

Dynamics of equilibration and collisions in ultradilute quantum droplets

V Cikojevic et al.

Summary: This study investigates the dynamical equilibration and binary head-on collisions of quantum droplets made of a K-39 - K-39 Bose mixture using time-dependent density-functional theory. Important effects of initial population ratio deviation from the optimal mean-field value are extensively explored. The study shows sensitivity to an initial nonoptimal concentration and proposes a two-component approach for addressing situations with three-body losses mainly acting on one of the mixture's components.

Coexistence of vortex arrays and surface capillary waves in spinning prolate superfluid 4He nanodroplets

Marti Pi et al.

Summary: In the study of spinning prolate He-4 droplets, it was found that small droplets are vortex free in their equilibrium configuration, evolving towards vortex hosting as their size increases. The stability phase diagram of spinning He-4 droplets is dependent on droplet size and the number of vortices they contain, showing a clear dependence on these factors rather than universal dimensionless variables.
