Refractory out-of-hospital cardiac arrest and extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation: A meta-analysis of randomized trials

Tommaso Scquizzato et al.

Summary: Extracorporeal CPR compared with conventional CPR increased survival with favorable neurological outcome in adults with refractory out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, especially when the initial rhythm was shockable.

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation-facilitated resuscitation in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

Yuko Kiyohara et al.

Summary: The meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials showed that extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) may have a tendency towards better mid-term neurological outcomes and was associated with a significant improvement in short-term favorable neurological outcomes compared with conventional cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CCPR).

Extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation versus conventional cardiopulmonary resuscitation in adults with cardiac arrest: a comparative meta-analysis and trial sequential analysis

Christopher Jer Wei Low et al.

Summary: This study found that, compared with conventional cardiopulmonary resuscitation, extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation reduced in-hospital mortality, improved long-term neurological outcomes, and increased post-arrest survival, particularly in patients with in-hospital cardiac arrest.

Effect of Intra-arrest Transport, Extracorporeal Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, and Immediate Invasive Assessment and Treatment on Functional Neurologic Outcome in Refractory Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest A Randomized Clinical Trial

Jan Belohlavek et al.

Summary: The study aimed to determine whether an early invasive approach improves neurologically favorable survival in patients with refractory out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. The results showed no significant difference in survival with neurologically favorable outcome at 180 days between the invasive strategy group and the standard strategy group. However, the invasive strategy group had higher rates of neurologic and cardiac recovery at 30 days.

ECPR-extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Kuppuswamy Madhan Kumar

Summary: Extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) is a salvage procedure increasingly used worldwide for patients with cardiac arrest, requiring a multidisciplinary team and skilled healthcare workers. Factors such as ethical, legal, and financial considerations play a crucial role in the success of ECPR.
