Males With Traumatic Lower Limb Loss Differ in Body Fat Distribution Compared to Those Without Limb Loss

Summary: This study examined body fat composition in males with traumatic lower limb loss and compared it to a group without limb loss. The results showed that males with limb loss had higher body fat percent, gynoid fat percent, android fat mass, and percent compared to those without limb loss. There were no differences in body fat composition between different levels of limb loss.

Summary: Obesity is common in Dutch persons with lower limb amputation, with a prevalence higher than the general adult population. However, body weight and body mass index are not significantly associated with skin problems and frequency of prosthetic repairs. Persons with severe skin problems tend to have slightly lower body mass index, and those with skin problems are younger.
