Artecanin of Laurus nobilis is a novel inhibitor of SARS-CoV-2 main protease with highly desirable druglikeness

Mohammed Baqur S. Al-Shuhaib et al.

Summary: This study investigated the potential of natural compounds from medicinal plants in the Middle East to inhibit the main protease (M-pro) of SARS-CoV-2. Through docking experiments and virtual screening, artecanin from Laurus nobilis was identified as a potent inhibitor with excellent druglikeness properties and safety. Molecular dynamics simulations confirmed the stability of the M-pro-artecanin complex. This study highlights the potential of artecanin as a natural inhibitor for preventing the outbreak of COVID-19.

Resistin Contribution to Cardiovascular Risk in Chronic Kidney Disease Male Patients

Katarzyna Romejko et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between resistin and cardiovascular risk in men with chronic kidney disease (CKD) not treated with dialysis. The results showed that resistin concentrations were significantly higher in CKD patients and resistin may contribute to the progression of cardiovascular risk in this group of patients. Additionally, the relationship between resistin and CV risk is modified by PAI-1 concentrations.

Resistin-like molecules: a marker, mediator and therapeutic target for multiple diseases

Yaning Shi et al.

Summary: RELMs are highly cysteine-rich proteins, including RELM alpha, RELM beta, Resistin, and RELM gamma, which exhibit significant differences in structure, distribution, and function. The expression of RELMs is regulated by various signaling molecules, such as IL-4, IL-13, and their receptors. RELMs proteins are involved in a wide range of physiological and pathological processes, and participate in the progression of numerous diseases. Meanwhile, RELMs can serve as biomarkers, risk predictors, and therapeutic targets for these diseases, providing novel targets or strategies for their treatment and prevention.

Serum resistin and the risk for hepatocellular carcinoma in diabetic patients

Mona Mohamed Ibrahim Abdalla

Summary: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a major cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Diabetes has been identified as a significant risk factor for HCC, with resistin hormone playing a potential role in its development and progression. Increased levels of resistin in HCC patients may be associated with more advanced disease stages and poorer prognoses.

The Role of the Adipokine Resistin in the Pathogenesis and Progression of Epithelial Ovarian Cancer

Klaudia Parafiniuk et al.

Summary: The relationship between obesity and epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) remains inconclusive. The adipokine hypothesis suggests that adipocytes in obese individuals interact with cancer cells and promote their migration and metastasis through the secretion of adipokines, growth factors, and hormones. Resistin, one of the adipokines, has been found to stimulate the growth and differentiation of ovarian cancer cells, increase angiogenesis factors, induce epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), and affect survival in EOC patients.

Identification of chymotrypsin-like protease inhibitors of SARS-CoV-2viaintegrated computational approach

Salman Ali Khan et al.

Summary: In response to the outbreak of SARS-CoV-2, researchers are investigating the development of antiviral drugs targeting the Chymotrypsin-like protease to combat the infection. Through computational drug design methods, potential inhibitors have been identified from FDA-approved antiviral drugs and natural compounds, with further evaluation of their binding affinity and stability through MD simulation and binding free energy calculations. The results suggest that these compounds have the potential to inhibit the function of Coronavirus' Chymotrypsin-like protease, contributing to the search for new inhibitors against the vital pathway of the virus for drug discovery.

Summary: This study investigated the structure-activity relationship of hesperetin derivatives on inhibiting diabetes-related enzyme systems PTP1B and alpha-glycosidase. Among the derivatives, hesperetin 5-O-glucoside showed the strongest inhibitory activity on PTP1B, with a significant impact of the sugar moiety at the C-5 position. The study also revealed that the ability to inhibit PTP1B depends on the nature, position, and number of sugar moieties in the flavonoid structure.
