Petrogenesis of the Carboniferous Intrusive Rock in the Xiaobaishitou District of East Tianshan, Northwest China: Magma Evolution and Tectonic Significance

Ning LI et al.

Summary: The study investigates the petrogenesis and tectonic evolution of the Xiaobaishitou gabbro-diorite pluton in the East Tianshan Orogen. The results suggest that the rock was formed at 324.7 +/- 2.4 Ma and underwent multilevel magmatic storage. The gabbro-diorite shows crustal contamination and is likely derived from metasomatic mantle with minor crustal components.

Exhumation history of the Katebasu gold-copper deposit, Western Tianshan, NW China: Constraints from (U-Th)/He and fission-track thermochronology

Jingbo Sun et al.

Summary: This study investigates the exhumation history of the Katebasu gold-copper deposit in the Chinese Western Tianshan using (U-Th)/He and fission-track dating. The results reveal that the deposit underwent two phases of exhumation, one during the late Paleozoic to Early Jurassic and the other during the Early Oligocene. The tectonic stability during the middle-late Mesozoic to early Cenozoic and limited exhumation during the late Cenozoic uplift played important roles in the preservation of the deposit.

A review of geological characteristics and time-space distribution of cobalt deposits in the Central Asian Orogenic Belt, Xinjiang, Northwest China

Fuquan Yang et al.

Summary: Northern Xinjiang in Northwest China is an important part of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB) and has abundant Fe, Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn, W, Mo, Au, and rare metal deposits. Cobalt resources are scarce in China, but many by-product cobalt deposits have been found in the CABO of Xinjiang. Cobalt is mainly distributed in the East Tianshan and Beishan regions, with five types of deposits identified: magmatic, magmatic-hydrothermal, volcanogenic, skarn, and sedimentary. The Early Permian phase was the main mineralization phase, forming magmatic-type (Cu-Ni-Co and Ni-Co) and skarn-type (Fe-Co and Ag-Cu-Pb-Zn-Co) deposits. The formation of diverse types of Co deposits is attributed to the evolution of subduction, collision, and postcollision in the Paleo-Asian oceanic plate.

The role of long-lived arc volcanism in the formation of the VMS deposits: A case study of the volcanic-sedimentary sequence of Kangbutiebao formation associated with VMS deposits, Altai Mountains

Chao Sun et al.

Summary: Scholars are studying the volcanic-sedimentary sequence in the Altai Mountains to understand the role of volcanism in the formation of VMS deposits and the origin of metals in pre-ore volcanic rocks. The sequence is mainly composed of felsic volcanic rocks and subordinate sedimentary rocks. The results suggest that the felsic volcanism occurred in the Early Devonian and the sedimentary rocks were affected by weak weathering. Detrital materials from the volcano and adjacent intrusions contributed to the composition of the sedimentary rocks. The formation of the sequence is attributed to continental rifted arc or back-arc conditions caused by slab-rollback of the Paleo-Asian Ocean. Rating: 8/10.

Zhenlong Zhang et al.

Summary: The Huangtan Au-Cu-Zn deposit is an auriferous volcanogenic massive sulfide deposit discovered in East Tianshan. It is hosted in volcanic breccia and tuff. The mineralization age is determined to be 432 million years. The formation of the deposit is attributed to magmatic fluids with the addition of seawater circulation.

The results indicate that Cu mineralization occurred earlier than Au mineralization and may have a magmatic-hydrothermal origin.

Serguei G. Soloviev et al.

Summary: The Julia skarn Cu-Au-Mo deposit, located in the Kuznetsk Alatau, is characterized by high-grade copper, gold, and molybdenum contents. The deposit is composed of prograde calcic skarns and later retrograde skarns, with abundant copper sulfides associated with andradite-rich garnet defining oxidized type alteration. The deposit is related to a Late Cambrian igneous complex and represents an early Paleozoic Cu-Au(-Mo) mineralization in the Altai-Sayan orogenic system.

The Ulandryk and related iron oxide-Cu-REE(-Au-U) prospects in the Russian Altai: A large emerging IOCG-type system in a Phanerozoic continental setting

Serguei G. Soloviev et al.

Summary: The Ulandryk and related prospects in the Altaid orogenic belt are characterized by intense iron oxide, copper, rare earth elements, and uranium mineralization. These deposits exhibit similarities to IOCG deposits but are found in a Phanerozoic setting instead of a Precambrian one. The mineralization is associated with Early Devonian subvolcanic granite and has both post-orogenic and anorogenic characteristics.

Geology and geochronology of the volcanogenic massive sulphide polymetallic deposits in Altay Orogenic Belt, Xinjiang, Northwest China: examples from the Kelan Basin

Fuquan Yang et al.

Summary: The Chinese Altay orogenic belt is home to over 20 volcanogenic massive sulphide deposits and mineralizations, with four mineralizing events identified in various polymetallic deposits. Seafloor exhalative processes are deemed crucial for the formation of economic mineralization in the region. The syndepositional VMS deposits in the Chinese Altay formed during the Early-Middle Devonian period, with specific mineralization ages identified for different basins within the orogenic belt.

Fluid evolution and metallogenesis of the Meiling Cu-polymetallic deposit in the East Tianshan, NW China: Constraints from ore geology, fluid inclusions, stable isotope, and U-Pb geochronology

Xihui Cheng et al.

Summary: The Meiling Cu-polymetallic deposit in the East Tianshan of Xinjiang, NW China, underwent multiple-stage hydrothermal activities resulting in silicification, chlorite alteration, and sericite alteration. At least three mineralization stages were identified, with the final mineralization occurring during the Late Carboniferous period. Fluid evolution during these stages was characterized by varying temperatures and salinities, suggesting a H2O-NaCl bearing hydrothermal system.

Zircon U - Pb age, fluid inclusion, and H - C - O - He - Ar - S isotopic compositions as an index to the VMS-type mineralization: A case study from the Wulasigou polymetallic deposit, Altay Orogenic Belt, Northwest China

Chengdong Yang et al.

Summary: The Wulasigou polymetallic (zinc-copper-iron-gold) deposit is located in the volcano-sedimentary Kelan Basin of the Chinese Altay and hosted in the second unit of the upper member of the Lower Devonian Kangbutiebao Formation. The ore forming fluids belong to a simple H2O-NaCl system with a dominantly magmatic signature mixing with an increasing seawater component vertically upward from the volcanic conduit towards the sea floor. The isotopic data suggest a larger contribution made by the deep magma source in the development of the deposit.

Deciphering fluid origins in the Paleozoic Laoshankou Fe-Cu-Au deposit, East Junggar: Constraints from noble gases and halogens

Summary: The study on the Laoshankou deposit suggests that ore-fluid sources include marine pore fluid affected by seawater and bittern fluid formed through seawater evaporation, with possible influence from meteoric water later on. This non-magmatic fluid source interpretation challenges previous assumptions of magmatic-hydrothermal origin and provides new insights for understanding Paleozoic Fe-Cu (-Au) deposits in the Central Asian Orogenic Belt.
