Development of polymer electrolyte membrane based on poly(Vinyl Chloride)/graphene oxide modified with zirconium phosphate for fuel cell applications

Ahmed F. Elerian et al.

Summary: The film-forming and structural properties of Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) were studied, and it was found that incorporating Graphene oxide (GO) and zirconium phosphate (ZrP) into PVC can develop functionalized polyelectrolyte membranes (PEMs) for direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs). The structural and physical properties of PVC/GO-ZrP membranes were investigated using various techniques, and the results showed that these membranes have sufficient characteristics for application in DMFCs.

Research progress of novel bio-based plasticizers and their applications in poly(vinyl chloride)

Zheming Zhang et al.

Summary: PVC, widely used around the world, has traditionally been plasticized with petroleum-based chemicals, but their negative impact on health and environment have led to restrictions in certain regions. The development of bio-based PVC plasticizers as alternatives is important, with various types extensively studied and categorized by raw materials and chemical structure. Understanding the relationship between chemical structure and plasticizing performance is key to predicting the efficiency of these novel plasticizers.

Ultrafast response humidity sensors based on polyvinyl chloride/graphene oxide nanocomposites for intelligent food packaging

Hesham Moustafa et al.

Summary: This paper presents an efficient route to fabricate high response humidity sensors by incorporating graphene oxide nanoplatelets into PVC with plasticizer, showing that the best dispersion of GO nanoplatelets in the PVC matrix was achieved at 1% and 3%. The humidity sensing test revealed that the sensor with 3% GO displayed higher sensitivity, faster response speed, and recovery time compared to others.

Recent Attempts in the Design of Efficient PVC Plasticizers with Reduced Migration

Joanna Czogala et al.

Summary: This paper reviews the trend of replacing commonly used plasticizers in PVC with new compounds to enhance mechanical properties and plasticizing efficiency. The novel plasticizers are divided into three groups based on the replacement strategy. Comparison of the chemical and physical properties of PVC formulations with different plasticizers shows improvements in polymer performance with some new plasticizers.

Effect of long-term ageing on graphene oxide: structure and thermal decomposition

Chen Li et al.

Summary: After long-term ageing, the structure of graphene oxide changed, with an increase in C/O ratio, a decrease in interlayer distance, and a decrease in oxygen functional groups. The thermal decomposition process also changed, with a decrease in activation energy.

Small molecule plasticizers for improved migration resistance: Investigation of branching and leaching behaviour in PVC blends

Matthew W. Halloran et al.

Summary: Increasing branching can reduce the migration of plasticizers into mediums, with branched species showing superior migration resistance compared to non-branched ones. The quantitative H-1 NMR method is a more direct way to assess leaching for certain branched species, but efficiency may decrease with compounds containing four or more branches.
