Thermal and mechanical properties of biodegradable nanocomposites prepared by poly(lactic acid)/acetyl tributyl citrate reinforced with attapulgite

Ya-Li Sun et al.

Summary: Attapulgite (ATT) is a versatile nanomaterial that enhances the barrier performance of polylactic acid (PLA) as a reinforcing filler. Acetyl tributyl citrate (ATBC) was used to improve the toughness of PLA and facilitate the dispersion of ATT in PLA. The addition of a small amount of ATBC improved the fracture elongation, crystallinity, water absorption, hydrolysis, and biodegradability of PLA. When 10% ATT was added to PLA/ATBC sample, the tensile strength and thermal degradation temperature significantly increased. However, an excessive amount of ATT caused agglomeration and reduced the performance of the nano composite.

Cellulose acetate based sustainable nanostructured membranes for environmental remediation

Ayesha Rehman et al.

Summary: Membrane-based gas separation has the potential to reduce environmentally hazardous carbon dioxide (CO2) gas. This study focuses on synthesizing mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) with improved CO2 adsorption performance and stability. The incorporation of Cu-MOF-GO composite filler into the polymer matrix enhances the properties of the membranes. Increasing the filler concentration affects the CO2 adsorption. The successful incorporation of MOF within the MMMs was confirmed through various analytical techniques.

Summary: Membrane-based gas separation has the potential to reduce environmentally hazardous CO2 gas. This study aimed to synthesize mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) with improved CO2 adsorption performance and stability. The effect of increasing filler concentration on CO2 adsorption was investigated. The results showed that increasing the filler concentration improved the adsorption performance, but beyond a certain concentration, aggregation occurred. The successful incorporation of MOF within the MMMs was confirmed through spectroscopy analysis.
