Anatomical evaluation of deep-learning synthetic computed tomography images generated from male pelvis cone-beam computed tomography

Yvonne J. M. de Hond et al.

Summary: This study emphasizes the importance of anatomical correctness in synthetic CT scans generated from CBCT scans using different deep-learning models. The results show that although Dual-UNet performs best in standard image quality measures, it performs worst in anatomical comparison, highlighting the importance of adding anatomy-based evaluation of sCTs generated by DL-models. Direct anatomical comparison with CBCT may provide a useful method to assess the clinical applicability of DL-based sCT generation methods in the pelvic area.

Three-dimensional deep neural network for automatic delineation of cervical cancer in planning computed tomography images

Yi Ding et al.

Summary: This study proposes a V-net model for automated segmentation in cervical cancer radiation therapy. The results show that the V-net model outperforms the U-net model in the delineation of most target areas and organs at risk, and it also has the capability of predicting low-dose areas.

Comparison of Supervised and Unsupervised Approaches for the Generation of Synthetic CT from Cone-Beam CT

Matteo Rossi et al.

Summary: This study explores image-to-image translation of CBCT to CT-like scans using convolutional neural networks, comparing supervised and unsupervised training techniques. The quantitative results favored supervised training for higher accuracy and similarity indices, while qualitative results showed higher anatomical artifacts in CBCT generated by supervised techniques.
