Genome-wide scan reveals genomic regions and candidate genes underlying direct and maternal effects of preweaning calf mortality in Nellore cattle

N. A. Marin-Garzon et al.

Summary: Analyzing the genetic parameters of preweaning calf mortality in Nellore cattle, this study identified genomic regions and candidate genes affecting direct and maternal effects. Results showed direct and maternal heritability estimates were 0.2143 and 0.0137, with candidate genes involved in critical biological mechanisms such as embryogenesis and immune response.

Genes underlying genetic correlation between growth, reproductive and parasite burden traits in beef cattle

Virginia Mara Pereira Ribeiro et al.

Summary: Genetic correlation is crucial for understanding the relationship between economic traits and can improve breeding programs. This study aimed to estimate genetic correlations between growth, reproduction, and parasite burden traits, identifying functional candidate genes underlying these correlations. Through functional analyses, seven FCGs were identified for more than one trait, suggesting potential for genetic improvement in multiple traits.
