Enrichment of scandium and aluminum from limonitic laterite during the nitric acid pressure leaching process

Zhengen Zhou et al.

Summary: This study focuses on separating and enriching scandium and aluminum from limonitic laterite using the nitric acid pressure leaching process. The most suitable conditions for leaching the laterite were determined, resulting in high extraction rates for scandium and aluminum. The Sc and Al were selectively precipitated using magnesium carbonate suspension, and a small amount of nickel and magnesium were also found in the precipitate. Sodium hydroxide leaching was used to dissolve the aluminum, producing a high concentration of aluminum solution for direct recovery. This method has the potential to enhance the economic value of limonitic laterite through the recovery of scandium and aluminum.

Investigation of the thermal behavior of Mg(NO3)2.6H2O and its application for the regeneration of HNO3 and MgO

Ding Zhao et al.

Summary: The NAPL process is attracting attention due to the increasing demand for nickel and cobalt, and the depletion of nickel sulfide. In this process, iron, aluminum, nickel, and cobalt are separated using MgO, generating Mg(NO3)(2).6H(2)O as an important carrier for the cycling of HNO3 and MgO via pyrolysis. Experimental results confirm the formation of Mg-3(OH)(4)(NO3)(2) through the reaction 3(Mg(NO3)(2).nH(2)O) & RARR; Mg-3(OH)(4)(NO3)(2) + 4HNO(3). A four-step model (A & RARR; B & RARR; C & RARR; D & RARR; E) accurately describes the process.

Mineral evolution and porous kinetics of nitric acid pressure leaching limonitic laterite

Fei He et al.

Summary: The behavior of nickel, iron, and minerals during the nitric acid pressure leaching process of limonitic laterite was investigated in this study. The results showed that the extraction of nickel was positively correlated with temperature, acid concentration, and liquid-solid ratio. The dissolution process of goethite was also observed, and a suitable kinetic model was selected to describe the nickel extraction process.
