Brass alloys are widely used in various industries, but they lack corrosion resistance in corrosive environments. Efforts have been made to utilize the superhydrophobic properties in the industry to solve the economic and environmental consequences of brass alloy corrosion. This paper presents a review of superhydrophobic coatings on brass alloys reported in articles. Models used to evaluate the superhydrophobic properties and methods for preparing samples for laboratory operations are discussed comprehensively. Different methods for increasing surface roughness and reducing surface energy are also examined.
Brass alloys are well suited for use in a variety of industries; however, they are not corrosion resistant in corrosive environments. There are a number of economic and environmental consequences associated with the corrosion of brass alloys. Since the discovery of superhydrophobic properties in nature, efforts have been made to utilize these properties in the industry. A review of the superhydrophobic coatings on brass alloys reported in the articles is presented here. For a comprehensive view of superhydrophobic properties, a brief discussion is given and different models used to evaluate the superhydrophobic properties of surfaces are examined. Next, a comprehensive look at the preparation of samples for laboratory operations is presented, and finally, the different methods for increasing surface roughness and reducing surface energy are discussed.& COPY; 2023 Elsevier B.V.
