Influence of cooling condition after solidification on T5 heat treatment response of hypoeutectic Al-7Si-0.4Mg casting alloy

Soo-Bae Kim et al.

Summary: The cooling conditions after solidification of a hypoeutectic Al-7Si-0.4Mg alloy significantly affect the precipitation behavior during T5 heat treatment. Mold cooling leads to the formation of pre-precipitates, enhancing the hardness and strength of the alloy, but has a less pronounced effect on the hardenability during T5 heat treatment compared to water quenching. The pre-precipitates interfere with the precipitation of beta and promote the precipitation of coarse beta', U2, and Si, reducing the overall T5 precipitation hardenability.

Microstructural Evolution and Strengthening Behavior of High-Pressure Die-Cast High-Cu Al-Si-Cu-Mg Alloy with T5 Treatment

G. S. Peng et al.

Summary: This study investigates the microstructural evolution and strengthening behavior of HPDC Al-Si-Cu-Mg alloy with high Cu content aged by T5 treatment. The increase in hardness and electrical conductivity during peak-aging treatment is attributed to the formation of Guinier-Preston zones. The slight decrease in hardness and increase in electrical conductivity during further aging are mainly due to the formation of Al2Cu precipitates.

From classical thermodynamics to phase-field method

Long-Qing Chen et al.

Summary: The article focuses on the phase-field method as a density-based computational method for modeling and predicting temporal microstructure and property evolution during materials processes. It discusses the connections between phase-field equations and classical thermodynamics, as well as the relationships of continuum phase-field equations at different levels. Additionally, it examines the contributions of long-range interactions to domain structure evolution during phase transformations.

Co-precipitated Ni/Mn shell coated nano Cu-rich core structure: A phase-field study

Yuhong Zhao

Summary: This study investigates the formation paths, diversity patterns, segregation modes, and magnetic effect of Ni/Mn shell-coated Cu-rich particles in Fe-15at. % Cu-1at. %Mn-1at. %Ni alloy using the phase-field method. The research reveals the coexistence of three nucleation mechanisms and the appearance of four structural patterns during precipitation, growth, and coarsening. The Cu-rich nanoparticles transform from bcc-a-Cu to fcc-g-Cu, while the Ni/Mn shell remains bcc and precipitates on the surface of bcc-a-Cu, fcc-g-Cu, or both. The Ni/Mn shell inhibits crystal structure transformation and phase separation. Adjusting aging time, magnetic field, and elastic field conditions can yield different microstructures and mechanical properties.

Jointing of CFRP/5083 Aluminum Alloy by Induction Brazing: Processing, Connecting Mechanism, and Fatigue Performance

Kang Guo et al.

Summary: Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) is widely used in the lightweight design of high-speed trains. In this study, CFRP plate and 5083P-O aluminum plate were successfully joined using induction brazing. Anodization of the aluminum plate increased the wetting behavior and bonding strength between CFRP and oxide film. High-cycle fatigue testing revealed a low fatigue limit for the CFRP/5083 joint.

Effects of melt thermal treatment on cast Al-Si alloys: A review

Sunil Manani et al.

Summary: The shape and size of primary and eutectic phases significantly affect the mechanical properties of cast Al-Si alloys. Conventional casting methods result in alloys with poor mechanical properties. Melt thermal treatment, a modified casting process, has the potential to improve the alloy's mechanical properties by altering the shape and size of the phases.

Improvement in as-cast strength of high pressure die-cast Al-Si-Cu-Mg alloys by synergistic effect of Q-Al5Cu2Mg8Si6 and θ-Al2Cu phases

Xiangzhen Zhu et al.

Summary: The experimental results showed that the combination of different amounts of theta-Al2Cu and Q-Al5Cu2Mg8Si6 phases can provide the same yield strength but different elongations. By optimizing the synergistic strengthening of these two phases, a balanced strength-ductility trade-off was achieved in the newly developed alloy at 3.0 wt% Cu and 0.9 wt% Mg. Thermo-dynamic calculation using Pandat 2018 software explained the formation and distribution of strengthening phases, indicating that nanoscale Q-Al5Cu2Mg8Si6 particles are precipitated via solid-solid reaction.
