Investigation on corrosion behaviors and mechanical properties of TiB2/7075Al composites with various particle contents

Liang Chen et al.

Summary: TiB2/7075Al composites with different particle contents were prepared through hot-pressing sintering and hot extrusion, and their mechanical properties and corrosion resistance were studied. The results showed that increasing TiB2 content refined the grain size, reduced texture strength, and improved wear resistance. TiB2 particles hindered corrosion channels and crack propagation, enhancing the resistance to intergranular and exfoliation corrosion, but aggravated pitting corrosion due to the destruction of the oxide film on the composite surface. The electrochemical corrosion resistance of the composite was lower than that of 7075Al without particles, but could be improved again by increasing TiB2 content.
