A Novel Multiple-Ring Aromatic Spacer Based 2D Ruddlesden-Popper CsPbI3 Solar Cell with Record Efficiency Beyond 16%

Huanhuan Yao et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel approach to improve charge transport and device performance in two-dimensional RP CsPbI3 perovskite solar cells (PSC) was proposed by developing a multiple-ring aromatic spacer. The use of 1-naphthylamine (1-NA) spacer with extended pi-conjugation lengths was found to reduce the exciton binding energy and facilitate efficient separation of excitons. The cations of the spacer also made a significant contribution to the conduction band, leading to a reduced bandgap and improved interlayer charge transport. The strong pi-pi conjugation of the spacer enhanced intermolecular interactions and hydrogen bonding, resulting in high-quality films with preferred vertical orientation and lower defect density. The (1-NA)(2)(Cs)(3)Pb4I3 PSC achieved a record 16.62% performance with enhanced stability.

Polishing the Lead-Poor Surface for Efficient Inverted CsPbI3 Perovskite Solar Cells

Sheng Fu et al.

Summary: Triiodide cesium lead perovskite has the potential to be used in efficient and stable photovoltaics. However, the development of inverted devices and their compatibility with tandem devices is still a challenge. This study finds that the surface components of CsPbI3 are lead-poor and the traps present are p-type with localized states. This leads to poor electron transfer and nonradiative recombination, affecting the performance of the photovoltaics. Polishing treatment with 1,4-butanediamine can eliminate these traps and improve the efficiency of the CsPbI3 photovoltaics.

Improved Absorber Phase Stability, Performance, and Lifetime in Inorganic Perovskite Solar Cells with Alkyltrimethoxysilane Strain-Release Layers at the Perovskite/TiO2 Interface

Tianran Liu et al.

Summary: Compared to its hybrid counterparts, all-inorganic beta-CsPbI3 exhibits superior chemical and thermal stability. However, the stability of beta-CsPbI3 perovskite solar cells (PSCs) under normal operating conditions is still not as good as hybrid counterparts. A study found that lattice distortion near the perovskite/electron transport layer (ETL) interface can induce polymorphic transformation in aged CsPbI3 films. By introducing strain-release layers (SRLs) at the perovskite/ETL interface, the lattice distortion is effectively suppressed, leading to improved charge transfer and stability. Incorporating this approach in beta-CsPbI3 solar cells resulted in high efficiency and long operational lifetime under continuous illumination.
