Improved energy storage performance of polyimide nanocomposites by constructing the meso- and macroscopic interfaces

Minzun Ji et al.

Summary: Researchers have constructed sandwich-structured PI/BaTiO3 nanocomposites using in-situ synthesis and solution casting techniques, achieving an energy density of 7.44 J/cm3 while maintaining good charge-discharge efficiency. The organic/inorganic interfacial polarization and interlayer polarization significantly increase the dielectric constant. The sandwich structure redistributes the electric field and mitigates the electric field concentration, while the outer insulation layer blocks high current and heat breakdown paths. This work provides a new paradigm for exploring polyimide nanocomposites with enhanced energy density through a combination of experiments and simulations.

Enhanced Breakdown Strength of Ferroelectric Polymer Films for Capacitive Energy Storage by Incorporating Oriented Fluorographene

Zhuofan Yang et al.

Summary: As the demand for electrification increases, there is a need for high energy density (U-e) polymer nanodielectric films with improved breakdown strength (E-b) and reduced dielectric loss. In this study, fluorographene (FG) was used as a new nanofiller to develop high-E-b polymer nanodielectrics. By incorporating only 0.2 wt % FG with in-plane orientation, a significantly enhanced Eb and reduced dielectric loss were achieved. The high E-b effect of FG can be attributed to the low crystallinity of the polymer matrix and the FG-polymer interface with deep traps and less defects. This research offers a strategy for the development of high-Eb/high-Ue flexible dielectric capacitors.

Summary: Polymeric dielectrics with high epsilon ' and low loss are important for energy storage devices. In this study, Zn@ZnO@PS/PVDF composites were prepared to improve epsilon ' and restrain loss. The PS shell in the composites not only promotes interparticle and intraparticle polarizations, but also prevents long-range charges migration, resulting in enhanced dielectric properties.

High-Entropy-Nanofibers Enhanced Polymer Nanocomposites for High-Performance Energy Storage

Lvye Dou et al.

Summary: There is a high demand for polymer composite dielectrics capable of high energy density, high efficiency, and high-temperature stability in electronic vehicles and power systems. However, a major challenge is the design of high-performance nanofillers that can improve both polarization and breakdown strength. In this study, high-entropy-induced ceramic nanofibers are developed as effective nanofillers to enhance the energy storage performance of polyetherimide (PEI) composites. This research provides a guideline for developing dielectric fillers with tunable properties and microstructures, promoting the development of high-performance polymer composites.

Transformation Toughening in Solid Dielectrics

Ziming Cai et al.

Summary: A method to enhance the breakdown strength of solid dielectrics is proposed, and the internal mechanism is studied using a phase-field breakdown model. Simulation results show that phase transformation has a significant effect on the dielectric breakdown strength, especially when the critical electric fields for phase transformation and breakdown are comparable. Therefore, a reasonable design of phase-transformed dielectrics is expected to achieve high breakdown resistance.

Significantly Enhanced Breakdown Strength and Energy Density in Nanocomposites by Synergic Modulation of Structural Design and Low-Loading Nanofibers

Hao Wang et al.

Summary: A newly designed sandwich-structured nanocomposite is proposed in this study, with low-loading BFSTO nanofibers as the polarization layer and PMMA/P(VDF-HFP) blend film as the insulation layer, resulting in significant enhancement of Eb and discharged energy density in the optimized composite. The outer layer of the composite has a low surface charge density, which helps impede charge injection and suppress leakage current, contributing to improved energy storage performance.

Qi Wang et al.

Summary: In this paper, a simulation method for dielectric breakdown behavior is proposed, which integrates the maximum electric field intensity criterion with Maxwell's equations. The stochasticity of breakdown strength is illustrated using a Gaussian distribution function, and a damage factor is introduced to differentiate intact and breakdown material. The finite element method is employed to solve Maxwell's equations considering the inhomogeneous material properties, and tree-like breakdown channels are obtained.
