CaCO3-assistant synthesis of pH/near-infrared light-responsive and injectable sodium alginate hydrogels for melanoma synergistic treatment

Jianxiu Lu et al.

Summary: An injectable sodium alginate (SA)-based hydrogel embedded with CaCO3/polydopamine nanoparticles (CaCO3/PDA NPs) was developed for the synergistic photothermal/calcium ions interference therapy of melanoma. The fluid was converted into a hydrogel in situ, increasing the retention time of photothermal agents at tumor sites and promoting hyperthermia. The residual CaCO3/PDA NPs continuously released Ca2+ in the acidic tumor microenvironment, leading to mitochondrial Ca2+-overloading and cell death. This pH/NIR-responsive and injectable SA-based hydrogel showed enhanced treatment efficacy of melanoma through the synergism of photothermal therapy and calcium ions interference therapy.

Size and doping effects on the improvement of the low-temperature magnetic properties of magnetically aligned cobalt ferrite nanoparticles

Pablo Tancredi et al.

Summary: The study investigates how the magnetic behavior of a set of magnetically hard nanoparticles can be improved by modifying sample arrangement and matrix properties. The research found that magnetically oriented nanoparticles exhibit a significant enhancement in remanence and coercive field at low temperatures, especially for the hardest samples, achieving coercive field values of around 30 kOe.

Dependence of Structural, Morphological and Magnetic Properties of Manganese Ferrite on Ni-Mn Substitution

Thomas Dippong et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the influence of Mn2+ substitution by Ni2+ on the structural, morphological and magnetic properties of Mn1-xNixFe2O4@SiO2 nanocomposites. The results show that as the Ni content increases, the crystal structure, morphology and magnetic properties of the samples change. The samples annealed at higher temperatures have more crystalline structures, while those annealed at lower temperatures exhibit more loosely packed crystals. Additionally, these parameters are also larger for the samples annealed at higher temperatures.

Synthesis and characterization of CoxFe1-xFe2O4 nanoparticles by anionic, cationic, and non-ionic surfactant templates via co-precipitation

Kittipon Sangsuriyonk et al.

Summary: Cobalt ferrite nanoparticles were synthesized using different surfactants, resulting in variations in morphology, structure, magnetic, and electrical properties. The use of SDS template produced the smallest particle size, while the use of CTAB, SDS, and Tween20 decreased the saturated magnetization. Increasing the Fe2+ mole ratio led to an increase in saturated magnetization, with the highest value obtained using the SDS template.

Synthesis of mesoporous CuFe2O4@SiO2 core-shell nanocomposite for simultaneous drug release and hyperthermia applications

Mehdi Talaei et al.

Summary: Magnetic CuFe2O4 nanoparticles were synthesized via a sol-gel combustion and coated with mesoporous SiO2. The CuFe2O4@SiO2 nanocomposite showed high ibuprofen loading and controlled drug release, with potential applications in biomedicine. Coating CuFe2O4 nanoparticles with mesoporous silica reduced cytotoxicity and improved drug release properties, although it decreased hyperthermia ability.
