Anhydrous MgCO3: Controllable synthesis of various morphology based on hydrothermal carbonization

Yunhua Lu et al.

Summary: A novel, simple and efficient method for synthesizing anhydrous MgCO3 (AMC) using ascorbic acid (ASA) as a CO2 source and crystal modifier has been developed based on hydrothermal carbonization. Furan derivatives, aldehydes and ketones from ascorbic acid unexpectedly act as structure-directing agents. The effects of ASA pH values, reaction time and concentrations and types of Mg2+ were systematically investigated, resulting in the successful preparation of pure AMC with different morphologies.

Crystal growth, structure and thermal properties of anhydrous zinc carbonate (ZnCO3)

Wen Liang et al.

Summary: Carbonate materials are being increasingly used in the development of flame retardants due to their ability to sequester inorganic carbon. Anhydrous zinc carbonate (ZnCO3) has been identified as a suitable candidate for flame retardancy. This study synthesized ZnCO3 single crystals under high-pressure-temperature conditions and characterized their structural and thermal properties. The results showed that the synthesized ZnCO3 is an anhydrous phase with good flame retardancy.

Acoustic Emission Monitoring of High-Entropy Oxyfluoride Rock-Salt Cathodes during Battery Operation

Simon Schweidler et al.

Summary: In this study, the degradation behavior of a high-entropy oxyfluoride cathode material in lithium cells was investigated in situ using acoustic emission monitoring. The results showed that the initial cycle was the most acoustically active stage, and the formation and propagation of cracks in the electrode were found to be the primary cause of acoustic activity.
