Thickness effect on the microstructures, mechanical properties, and anisotropy of laser-powder bed fusion processed 316L stainless steel

Soung Yeoul Ahn et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of thin-wall thickness on the microstructures, properties, and anisotropy of laser-powder bed fusion processed thin-walled structures. The results show that the wall thickness has a significant influence on the microstructural characteristics, tensile properties, and anisotropic behavior of the thin-walled structures. Thicker walls promote epitaxial columnar growth, while reducing the geometrically necessary dislocation density and increasing the columnar grain aspect ratio. The tensile strength decreases and elongation increases with increasing wall thickness, and the degree of anisotropy also increases.

Strain Rate Effects on the Mechanical Properties of an AlCoCrFeNi High-Entropy Alloy

Chuan Ting Wang et al.

Summary: The effect of strain rate on the compressive properties of an AlCoCrFeNi high-entropy alloy was investigated. The alloy exhibited high strain rate sensitivity, especially under dynamic compression. Constitutive equations were derived to predict the strength of the alloy under various strain rates.

Determination of Johnson-Cook Material Parameters for Armour Plate Using DIC and FEM

Sangeeta Khare et al.

Summary: Understanding material behavior of armour steel under large deformations and high strains during loading is crucial. Johnson-Cook flow stress and failure models were used for modeling and predicting the material behavior. Material parameters were determined experimentally through tests at different strain rates and temperatures.

Columnar to equiaxed transition in additively manufactured CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloy

Hongge Li et al.

Summary: A single-track CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloy was prepared by laser melting deposition, with the microstructural evolution of columnar to equiaxed transition observed experimentally. A solidification map was established combining experimental observations and numerical simulations to quantitatively reveal the underlying correlation between solidification parameters and microstructural morphology. During the laser melting deposition process, a decrease in the ratio of gradient temperature to solidification rate induced columnar to equiaxed transition, which could have implications on the production of bulk components with the desired microstructure and high performance.

Constitutive modeling of the hot deformation behavior of CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloy

Christopher Brown et al.

Summary: The study investigates the plastic flow behavior of high-entropy alloys under hot compression conditions and evaluates the suitability of various constitutive models, with some models showing reasonable accuracy in predicting the deformation behavior of the alloy. Microstructural analysis confirms the occurrence of discontinuous dynamic recrystallization during deformation at lower strain rates.

Effects of temperature and loading rate on phase stability and deformation mechanism in metastable V10Cr10Co30FexNi50-x high entropy alloys

Dong Geun Kim et al.

Summary: This study investigates the compressive properties of high entropy alloys under different conditions, revealing variations in deformation mechanisms based on Fe content, testing temperature, and loading rate. The stability of FCC and the activation of TWIP and TRIP modes are correlated to these factors, showing a systematic shift in deformation mechanisms.

Revealing relationships between heterogeneous microstructure and strengthening mechanism of austenitic stainless steels fabricated by directed energy deposition (DED)

Zhou Yan et al.

Summary: In this study, the evolution of trans-scale heterogeneous structures in austenitic stainless steels fabricated by Directed Energy Deposition (DED) was systematically investigated. The impact of these structures on yield strength was quantified, with dislocation intensity being the main contributor to strength, especially the GND type accounting for over 60% of total dislocations. Despite the presence of micro inclusions in DED steel, a synergistic effect between deformation twinning and pre-existing GND-induced back stress contributes to high tensile plasticity.

Effects of Cell Network Structure on the Strength of Additively Manufactured Stainless Steels

Jung Gi Kim et al.

Summary: The rapid melting and solidification cycle in additive manufacturing creates metastable microstructures that contribute to the strength of additively manufactured alloys. The role of dislocation cell structure on the mechanical property of additively manufactured stainless steels was investigated. The finer cell networks found in the 304L stainless steels induced more interactions with dislocations, leading to higher strength during tensile test.
